Am I right in guessing she's a Golden Retriever Mel ? I'll be interested to see the replies to you Mel :)

I have the same problem with mine  We have a write up in this weeks Our Dogs where she got a 1st in her 1st Junior Class and the Judge says " a b very much out of coat" as part of his comments :( The thing is she hasn't ever been *in* coat lol

I believe it's partly an age thing - she is just slow maturing and will bloom late - well that's what I'm banking on :D The write up does also say something along the lines of still needs time to mature but has some nice attributes so the Judge recognised she still has a way to go.

I think we may have to resign ourselves to being in *full* coat by veteran lol

Seriously though I have been surprised by some of the dogs we were up against in puppy classes - full coats and well mature. Whatever happened to puppyhood

If they're mature in puppy classes they'll be overdone and cloddy by Open. Let them grow at the proper rate - they'll be much healthier. :)

been there and tried that and Phoe wouldn't eat her food

Will try again with her and disguise the flavour more in gravy or something :D A rcc would be great - to even make the split would be quite nice too ;)

I know exactly what you mean about the mature puppies.
Mine is very immature and some of the dogs in her class look more mature than my 2 and a half year old.

He was a really immature pup but is stunning now.Its just having the patience to wait!!!

Have got some fit and fertile which i will give a go.I don't want her to put any more body on though because she is always verging on being overweight even though she is exercised properly and not overfed!!!
Will give it a go and see what happens!
Thanks
Mel

Someone told me once about something homoeopathic that you can give to dogs to help bring out their coat. Apparently it works very well. I know it wasn't fit and fertile so I'll try to find out what it is and let you know.

Claire. :-)

Try hokamix worked wonders with my youngster, mind start at least 8 weeks before you have a show a it gets rid of the old stuff first then it comes back in gleaming with a thick glossy coat
Can be obtained from Animal Health Co

Hi my first Golden was very slow to mature, but having said that we still did
alright in the ring ,even from puppy she had fantastic coat had it until junior
then hers seasons kicked in,so we can only show her for6 months of the year.
However I still continue to give her cod liver oil and evening primrose and when she does
come in coat she looks stunning :-)

I love seeing Goldens playing in the fields with the sun shining it really makes their coats
glow lovely picture great time wasters :-D

Will wait with interest what my new boy pup coat will be like and how he differes
to Amber .

Regards Briony Sara you wait she will have a fantastic coat you can show
off with :-D

A good coat somes from within. Diet is a lot to do with it. My new youngster is on a full BARF diet, his coat is outstanding, long shines like glass, and is fully waterproof, it has to be he's in the water everyday!
