My dog suffers from travel sickness, even on the shortest of journeys, any ideas? My friens told me she read somewhere that you can give dogs travel sickness tablets that you can get from the chemist, is this correct?

I have had the same problem with my 5 month old pup. I have now started to use Bachs Rescue Remedy. you can by it from any chemist. Just pur four drops in his/her water a little while before you travel and this may help. It has helped with mine. I would put him in the car and even before we started to move he would be sick at least 3 times, but now he is fine, as long as he has the rescue remedy.

Thanks, it was getting to the point where I was dreading having to go anywhere in the car, b'cos if the dog was sick one of the kids was then sick b'cos of the smell.

We've also found that not feeding the dog before the journey has resolved any dikky tums. If we're out for the day then she has no breakfast, alternatively if we're out in the afternoon, then no treats all day. Has worked so far.

Stinks.

Hi, sorry did not notice this post before now. I have a bitch who is still travel sick and she is over 2yrs of age, I always give 1 sea leg tablet, bought from the chemist, this does not make her drowsy, and she is fine with this.

Hi mfys, Sorry for the delay in replying to your post, but I have been away for a few days.
You don't say how old your dog is but I assume that it is a puppy. I just wanted to say that it is not always the car motion which causes sickness in a young dog, it can also be caused by anxiety, or a combination of the two.
When my 'Gas-Bucket' was eight weeks old he would 'throw-up' just sitting in the car without moving. I tried many 'remedies' all to no avail.
It was just perseverance which finally did the trick. When I came home I would stop in the drive, let the dog in the car and drive into the garage, after a few times of this I would drive him to the park (only a couple of hundred yards away) for his play. He soon got used to the idea that getting into the car meant going somewhere nice. The journeys became longer and the frequency of the 'throw-ups' became less, it took about 9 months and a thousand towels, but now he loves going out in the car and is not sick at all.
Best of luck to you, hope your dog soon gets his 'car-legs'.
;)
