Since my bitch finished her first season her nipples have remained very large, almost as if she is pregnant. To my knowledge she did not mate with any dogs during her season. She shows no behavioural changes. Is this normal?

Hi LucyandMeg i have a boxer bitch and she was the same i took her to the vet because she also went off her food, he said she was having a phantom pregnancy. Her nipples have always stayed rather large
My flatcoat recently finished her first season, and I noticed her nipples were larger then before. I asked my vet, and he said it was just her becoming a teenager..... we all remember what that was like :) All the hormones kicking in to help with her development; still, he didn't enjoy her kissing him...wonder why?:)

tee hee :-) thanks for the advice. I was a bit worried that she might have got pregnant without me knowing, not sure when she would have cos she hardly ever left our sides but you know how you worry. Plus i couldn't bring myself to ask anyone, just a little embarrassing, "hello can you tell me if my dog should have such huge nipples?" not the best conversation starter! :-)
Mmmmm...Who knows what that could lead to :D :D

Just a bit of an update, megan had her booster and general heath check yesterday and she thinks megan is getting a phantom pregnancy.
