I am 'up the jungle' in Asia and local vet not curing this. Dalmation(F) sores on back, few inches down from neck. Used Iodine given by vet. Gave her tablets, didn't help, then injection, no help. Some parts have dried up where he took off the hair(which came out when pulled), very dry. Then another sore opens up nearby, once that dries another.
How can I identify 'Mange'? Can I use a human antispectic? Otherwise she is healthy and happy, though maybe drinking a little more water than normal. Our other dog and her inseperable, they sleep close, always together, he hasn't contracted anything so it is not contageous.
The sores are very wet/moist, the iodine seems to dry them up.
Any ideas/cluse what this could be. My searches make me think it could be mange, maybe I should use some Sulphur?
Any help really appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like hot spots, or moist dermatitis. This is usually caused by irritaion of some sort. My oldest got it as she was alergic to fleas. I have used Frontline spray for years every three months and stopped her getting these.
Also I find that cleaning it with an antifungal and anti bacterial wash like Hibiscrub (used by doctors and vets to wash before operations) and then applying antiseptic wound powder was much more effective than any ointment. this helped get rid of the heat and the moistness.
If the sores become infected 9as happened with a minor wound from an over enthusiastic playmate) then Fuciderm ointment quickly reduces the swelling and soreness.

Thanks so so much! Already from other posts I noticed people mentioning some tips. A small new area started and I didn't put on any Iodine but instead put some Baby lotion (nearest best thing I had ) and that particular sore looks steady/ok.
I wonder if in fact all this IODINE that I was told to put on is in fact the problem? The initial sore was not too bad and was less than an inch long, but the problem area is now about 3 inches x 4 inches, I really wonder if this was something very minor that has just been made worse by the constant use of Iodine? Anyone experienced with using Iodine on dogs, I know it is use for cuts/grazes but maybe was not the right thing to use.
I also used some of the baby lotion on a small patch and that area has improved within 12 hours.
Thanks so much everyone.

Sounds like Dally rash. Is the coat staining pink? Very common in Dalmatians. The only thing to clear it up on mine was changing his diet to a natural one. Wasn't too keen on going the whole hog with bones, but I fed him raw mince (human quality) with pulped raw vegtables and a little bio yogurt mixed in. Took about six weeks to clear completely but if it is going to work you should see a difference in 7-10 days.
Good luck

Sandrah....amazing, yes, it IS pink, I was thinking that the coat was that colour because it was the Iodine turning that colour, but yes there has been a distinct pink colour but just around where the sores are, so if the coat has gone Pink about say one inch in each direction then that could mean it is that problem?
When it started first out there was only a very small sore and I am worried that putting the iodine on has actually caused the rest of the problem.
I will search on the web about that disease, but can you tell me anything more about it, fascinating about the pink colour, but again, only Pink around the sores area of the coast.
Her diet is a mix, she is 6 years old and has been pretty healthy, she was 'spayed' about a year old after a uterous(sp?) infection, other wise fine and lively, though she has ut on weight recently.
I am so pleased and grateful for all this help. The local vet has not tested blood nor taken even a skin sample, nothing, just either pills or a heavy injection and nothing has cleared up except the baby lotion is certainly helping till I can get some E45 creme or similar.
Thanks SO much!!

The trouble with this being dally rash is that it doesn't usually turn into sores. The usual sort of rash is small bumps under the skin (only about the size of pimples), generally on the top of the head, but can go down the spine area, and very occasionally more generalised. These seem to get a bit greasy, the hair on top goes pink and then starts to fall out, and the dal looks 'motheaten' till the hair regrows.
I guess your dog's condition could be made worse by the climate, as dally rash usually occurs in the summer (show-time! ) and settles over the winter. They also tend to grow out of it by about 3 or 4 years old - it is very uncommon to see it on a mature dog.
If the skin has actually broken into sores you will have to be very careful that it doesn't get infected. Poor girl - give her a cuddle from me!

Oh the dreaded Dally Rash.... my old boy had it when he was a young whippersnapper. Looked like acne. Totally spoiled his teenager looks
