Hello,
Can anyone come up with any good ideas for a friend's birthday due at the end of June?
She has the same breed I have - Large Munsterlanders - and I would like to get her something connected to the breed but maybe featuring her dog as he was BOB at Crufts this year. I don't have a huge amount of money though, can anyone help?
Thanks

What about taking his photo to a local artist and having his portrait done. It's something that can be kept in the family for decades. You may find a cheap/but talented artist at a local craft fair. Or you could go the the Art dept at the local University/College and ask one of the tutors/lecturers to recommend a student who'd be willng to do the work. Doing portraits from photos is very easy if you're quite arty and doesn't take too long at all, especially if you just want a nice sketch as opposed to a painting.
Or alternatively you could get her a t-shrt made up with her dogs piccie on, maybe not ideal for show attire but pefect for everywhere else :D

The painting is an excellent idea Julie. There are painters that advertise in the monthly dog magazines, or I can (privately if necessary) recommend one who does excellent portraits from photographs.

Check their work out first though ;) We were stopped in the street last year by an animal *artist* who wanted to talk about Hudson ..she was carrying one of her pieces with her and offered to show us it ...hmmm ..well ....it was a dog for sure...think that was the nicest thing I could say about it :)

I must admit I'd never get a dog's portrait done for anyone after seeing the 2 efforts my mother presented me with at Christmas time done by a so-called artist!!!!!! Absolutely shocking & a complete waste of money! :( So I would tread very carefully there!

I had mine done by a particular person after seeing some of his work - and he is very good.

Love the portrait idea :)
There is also putting their pic on a mug, a pin, keychain, fridge magnet or taking them down and getting their pics taken :)

Putting a nice photo in a nice frame to me would be the nicest thing to give especially as if money is an issue. I would be chuffed !

I've just had a lovely house sign done, fairly big, with the dog painted from my own picture. It's on slate, and cost £39.50 inc. p&p. I had it done by
Crafts Wales - prompt and polite service, I'd thoroughly recommend them. (Was delivered within 10 days of me emailing my photo and requirements.)
