to those of you with pale dogs, who feed Nutro, have you had any problems with coats turning pink, 3 of my goldens (blonde) had a pink tinge but since changing food they have all returned to their natural colour, I wonder what is in it to make the coat do that? Any ideas?

Have you checked the ingredients to see if there is anything in there that could cause a coat colour change?

How bizarre - I've never heard of that happening. I've got a black and white beardie and she's fed on Nutro Large Breed Puppy and she's not had any problems with colour change. She is a little pink on her nose but that's where she's rubbed the fur off on her crate :D
I'd suggest you get in touch with Nutro themselves and ask about it - I can't imagine this is right and should be investigated.

I've been feeding my 3 Wheatens on Nutro for about 3 years now and haven't had any problems with their coats changing colour. When I first changed to Nutro, I was using Lamb & Rice as that is the variety recommended to improve coat condition but on one occasion I couldn't get L & R and so took Chicken & Rice instead and by the time they had worked their way through 2x15Kgs bags I noticed a marked improvement in the overall coat condition of 2 out of the 3 and so decided to stick with Chicken & Rice.
I know a lot of other Wheaten owners that use it as well and as far as I know none of them have had problems with colour.
I think that I'm correct in saying that Flamingos get their pink colour from eating shrimps, in which case it could well be that it is one of the ingredients in the variety that you were using that reacted with something in your retrievers coats' to cause the colour change.

I just switched my boston's and Taz to it not that long ago and they all seem fine.Noses are all black, well except for Taz but he has been like that since he was litte. :)

Yes, our English Springers turned pink on Nutro, too. It was particularly bad on their throats, but even the white areas on their muzzles and top of their heads were 'salmon' coloured. Nutro were very helpful and sent samples of the food to America for testing, but could find nothing to suggest a cause. They sent me information detailing causes of pink being water (ie. licking) or sunlight, but definately not the food. I changed the dogs to Burns and their white is no longer pink but most definately white again - so it must be something in the Nutro! Such a shame as I do think it's an excellent food and we continue to rear our puppies on it. In trying to find out the causes of 'pink' - alot of people said it is too much protein, but I don't believe that Nutro is particular high in protein. Others say it is caused by the dogs licking each other, but in our case, the pink was too extensive for that possibly to be the reason. Unfortunately we have never been able to get to the bottom of it!
