We were wanting to see a picture of a long haired Bassett,we were thinking of taking a friends dog, but not sure what it looks like.We already have a short haired bassett hound.

I do not know much about Basset Hounds, I'm more of a Labrador person myself. BUT! I have found a web site for you with pictures on it! Go to http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/pbgv.cfm - On there is a picture of a long haired hound, but it is not classed as a Basset Hound. There is also a link to the true Basset Hound page http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/basset.cfm and it said that long hair of a Basset is a disqualification in showing. Hope these pages help you.

Hi.
I have boarded a long haired Basset. It is I believe a genetic "throw back" and should not be bred from or cannot be shown. I must say she was very attractive and the coat was similar to a Welsh Springer in length and her tail was profusley feathered like a Setter.

perhaps you are thinking of a petit basset griffon vendeen? Another French breed, very similar to a basset, with a harsh slightly rough wiry coat......we had one, they are a delight.

I have only seen two long haired bassets - they are hard to get info on . If anyone has more info (as I'm considering adopting one) please email it. Thank you
