Hi guys
I had a lady contact me looking for a chocolate labrador puppy but we have a long waiting list as we only have one bitch and consequently only bred one litter of labs every two years so i suggested the lady looked elsewhere but offered to give any help and advice that she needed I told her to go and look for a reputable breeder which sadly she thought must mean a licenced breeder- anyway she contacted a licensed breeding kennels out of local free ads paper (not to be reccomended) they told her they did have a puppy for her but they wern`t registered so she asked if the parents had been tested, they replied "we dont need to test our dogs only people who breed rubbish do ,we are a licenced kennels so all our dogs have to be checked and confirmed healthy and all our dogs are guarenteed as such" I dont have any experiance of licenced kennels do they have to have the health of there stock tested? and are there any rules governing the number, type or how many puppies they can breed?
Also are all Licensed kennels who breed more then one type of dog like this or is this a one off?

Hi Kate
Sounds like a puppy farm to me! Just interested in money!!!!
Probably breeding goodness know how many breeds.
Not KC registered did they mean?
Not tested but checked???? Meaning what exactly?
If she buys that pup, hope for the pup's sake that she is lucky & there isn't any health problems.
Hope it doesn't end up in rescue!

Hi Steph
I thought the same thing arn`t there laws or rules of some sort to stop people like this from mis leading potential buyers
They were asking £400 a puppy for these pups as well! hopefully ive managed to put the lady off but I think she was pretty sucked in by them.

Health checked, as in having a vet give a bitch the once over is entirely different to health screening for hereditary disease. so yes they may have ot have a cursory health check when they renew their License and have their premises inspected for basic facilities etc but this is not what most of us mean by health checks.

You wouldn't believe how many puppy farms i've come across in the years- its terrible & the more people buy from them the worse it gets because where their is a market they'll always be puppy farms.
In our local paper i have been watching one suspicious advertiser for a few months now & they always have westies, shitzues, lhasas, jack russels, cockers, labs & yorkies for sale non are registered or health screened properly & the mobile phone number that you can ring puts you through to another mobile then another and so on until youv'e spent £25 on phone calls.
Now in last nights paper they have ex-breeding stock for sale which are all the parents of the puppies because they have got to old for breeding or bred out till they can give no more  shocking isn't it how they can abuse animals like this and get away with it just because some idiot from the council gives them a breeders licence.
Jenny.
