I am absolutely disgusted that Our Dogs are yet again carrying an Advert from Dog Lovers Registarion Club advertising their alternative registry, which all decent breeders know is primarily used by Puppy farmers and Pocket money breeders who are using it to give their unregistered, or unregisterable dogs a veneer of respectability.

In our breed it is puppies registered by this club that are the main source of dogs in rescue, as they more than likley are in other breeds.

How can a paper of the 'Fancy' be condoning this, by carrying the advert.

It is on page 9 of the issue of 4/4/03 and is a quarter page!

I have mailed them and toild them I will not advertise with them any more (usually do advetise special wins, and an Annual advert!

Agree with you on this, and I was also disgusted that they had accepted an advert for two litters - one Bernese x Leonberger @ £450 a pup, if I remember rightly, and another Bernese x Border Collie litter @ £250 a pup - these litters were from the same 'breeder' so obviously not a one-off accident.

Difficult call, I know - I guess they would say that it's not up to them to judge, and as they cover obedience/agility disciplines too not all their readers will have pedigree dogs - but I feel that if they are representing the dog fancy they should be more choosy. Do other people agree?

the most likley reason that they have put these adverts in there is because money talks.
Someone has paid them to advertise and so they will of course take the money, the paper is not KC run so whoever wants to put an advert in can do so.
Again i don't agree with it but at the end of the day money is bigger than our opinions.

It is not a difficult call Brihow Collies, If you compete in competition, be it Obedience, Agility, Gundog Working Tests, Field trials or Working Trials your dog has to be KC registered! It is not just Showing which the KC control!

There is nothing except exemption shows available to an unregistered dog. And that is what these dogs are, unregistered!

Yes John but you know how easy it is to register on the working register don't even need to know the parentage of the dog.Gillian

But it still cannot take part on a "Dog Lovers" registeration Gillian.

No sorry I know it can't not explaining myself clearly at all they would then have to be registered with the Kc working registry but then they could take part in obedience and agility events and the new owner could do that themselves..Sorry I'm rambling aren't I :D and not alot to do with the original post:D

That's true Gillian but as far as gundog work is concerned a full pedigree dog registered with the KC is the only way to be able to work. Field Trials Champions are just the same as show champions. In fact with the far fewer Field Trials held it is considerably harder to make up a Field trials Champion than Show Champion.

Getting back to the thread, The dog papers are really the province of the show people with other aspects of dog competition almost ignored so really it is in the hands of the show people. If you buy it you are condoning it! If you boycott it then it will not be in there for long! I’m sure they get more from sales than ever they get from adverts.

The KC have a Working register to register all the crossbreeds and dogs without papers for working disciplines so that doesn't apply.

Must say I never look in the dogs for sale section, as being an order only item I would expect most readers know how to go about finding a pup of any breed they are interested in via breed clubs.

I will do likewise anita...I am disgusted that OD accept such ads when they are meant to be "at the top" so to speak!

Does a "breeder" have to pay to register with D L R ?
And what does the Registration claim to actually mean ? Obviously those people looking for a pup will think this registration is just as good as KC because its advertised in a mag like this
