Hi Graham , you will need to make sure that both parents are hipscored and that the pups eyes are clean (as dirty eyes can be a sign of entropia) . It would be helpful if the breeder is a member of one of the breed clubs :)
There are a couple of very good breed guides here : GSP Breed Guides
Hi Graham When choosing a puppy you should make sure all the appropiate health tests have been completed and that the results are satisfactory. You should be able to see the mum of the puppies but dont expect to see the dad often breeders have travelled to a good stud dog. You would expect the puppy to be KC registered and the papers to be available or for the breeder to receipt you stating the papers are to follow. I would always chose a forward going puppy be very cautious if the litter is cowering in the corner this can show lack of socialisation. Equally dont pick the really pushy puppy it is said he might turn out to be a little to head strong although im not convinced! The breeder should be more than happy to help you make a informed choice she has seen the litter grow and knows there personality`s the most important thing is to go to a reputable breeder that breeds good quality stock and that you can put your trust in! I hope this helps a little
