Hi All'
I have an eight month old Doberman and am seriously considering breeding but am a little concerned by reading some posts on the forum. I have not seen my dobes mother however, she is Kennel Club registered and I have her certified family tree from the kennel club. Will this be a problem? Breeding her is something I am taking really seriously and I am aware of all the health checks she will need to go ahead. She has a lovely temperament and is taking well to her training lessons. When she is ready I will show her but I am still concerned that I did not see her with her mother and if this will affect trying to breed her seriously as I have read how important this is. Please help!

Hi SashaC
As you have said you will need to get all her health checks done, but may I suggest you take her along to some shows and meet some other breeders who will be able to advise you on wether she is of good enough quality to breed from.
You have made a good start with asking for advice many peple dont I am not a dob expert but hopefully there will be one here some where!!
Was there a reason for you not seeing her mother?

Hi, the reason for not seeing her mother is because I bought her from a dealer. I know now that this was not a good idea but I'm glad I gave her a good home. She is kc registered and I have today spoken with a breeder. Taking her to a show is a great idea, thanks for that. I do intend to show her when she is ready.

Hi Sasha,
If you're UK you won't be able to take her to a KC run show unless she's entered. But there's nothing to stop you going along yourself and talking to other dobe people (I think you said she's a dobe? If not, sorry, I'm having a senior moment!) who should be able to help you. Take along a copy of her pedigree, so that you don't forget names!, get a copy of the show catalogue, and chat to people - but not when they're just about to go into the ring!!

You're bound to find some people who aren't interested, but I find most people are willing to chat about their beloved breed!

Good luck. :)

If you have the KC registration form, it should have on it the name of her father and mother. It will have the mothers affix on it so you can search for your dogs breeder and go along and see her mother.
