Hi I have a white german shepherd @ 2 and half and when we first got her we were told that if they aloud whites in the show ring that she would be an excellent example.
So I looked into it all that time ago and was disgusted to find that white GSD were not recognised in the show ring by KC. so I kinda went off the idea of even trying ( i did so much want to have a go)
Then i heard on the grape vine that short haired white GSD had finaly been recognised and i was happy as larry until i found that long haired whites were still not recognised :(

So i was wondering if anyone knows if that is still the case and if so is there any sign of change?
I have trained her to show (ok so i wasnt as put off as i may have seemed ..lol) but now im thinking she may be getting too old for the show ring...is that true? and if not how much longer do i have to get her introduced .. ( i realise that i will have to fight hard to get her up to standard without any show history ..if you know what i mean)

Also i wanted very much to breed from her to keep the potential going for the eventual recognition (keeping the best whites myself for show) But if i cant show her or any potential litters she may have then i might bite the bullet soon and have her spayed (i know she is about the right age for both spaying and breeding ...with not much time left for either).

I fear that i might get a bit of back lash for my questions and my aparent inexperience of breeding or showing ...so i say now that these are questions and you will be waisting your time being offensive cause i have heard it all b4 :) ...lol i just want some advise

As far as I know whites of any coat type are still a fault as far as showing goes.

White GSDs have been recognised as a seperate breed I beleive in Canad, and there is also a European White Shepherd (old fashioned type) and there is a Dutch White Shepherd, and the examples I saw were pure Ice white with dark pigment, and a somewhat Belgian ?Shepherd type coat, finer build, but GSD proportions. Most whites I have seen in UK are in fact cream or Biscuit coloured like golden Retrievers.

You can still enter your girls for fun at Comapnion Dog shows in the Novelty classes. You can enter the pedigree classes also, but her coat and colour will be classed as faults.

Actually there is nothing stopping you shoing her in GSD classes at shows, but you are unlikly to place because of these faults. She is still a GSD, but non standard.

If a puppy in my breed had a lot of white on the chest, or anywhere on the body then it would be unlikely to win at shows, as they wpould be mismarked.

As Brainless says, in the UK white is still a non-standard colour for GSDs, and if you enter her at a show you will undoubtedly be placed last. Most breeds have colours/markings/coat length etc that are unacceptable in the showring but don't prevent the animal being a lovely pet.

Join the White and Long Coat Shepherd Society. They hold GSD Rallies throughout the country each year. You will be able to show your dog on a fun level and she will be able to compete against all different coat types of GSD. If you email me, I can give you some show dates that are coming up. Even the Companion dogs shows can be biased against the whites, it really depends on the judge. I have been fortunate in getting a judge for my GSD rally in July, that is not biased and he breeds GSD's to the standard!! He is a GSD Champ show judge who is quite happy to come along and judge all the variations in the breed. As he put it, he will just need to look through the coat at whats underneath!!
