my friend has just been to view a lovely pup, with all the regular health checks done.on inspecting the pedigree papers she noticed that the pups dam and sire both had the same sire.would this be a problem health wise in the future?any advice would be helpful on this.

This is what you call line breeding. A half brother to half sister mating is an example of many of the line-bred combinations you can have.
It should be fine, assuming the breeder knows her lines and the pups should all be quite "typy"

thanks that will be a great relief as i thought it was inbreeding.shows how little i know.i think we are so obsessed by all things incestuous that we forget they are dogs!!!!

i've just spoke to someone quite well up on the breed and she reckons it is a real no no to breed half brother to half sister,so i am in a dilemma as what to advise my friend.HELP

It depends on the quality of the individual dogs, and the mutual ancestors. If they were excellent examples, health check passed etc, with no serious faults but some stunning good qualities, then it can be fine. If they were average with one or two bad faults, then it's bad. This is when you need to know your dogs as individuals, not just names.
