I wonder if anyone can advise me, i have a 7 month old border terrier bitch that came into season yesterday i also have a 13 month old BT dog i know that we have to watch them carefully but would it be advisable to part them when we ar'nt with them ,which is for about 2 hours a day.I know after her bleed to keep them apart until after day 21-23 but what about from now till then.Any info will be gratefully heard.

Keep them apart, totally, from now for at least 3 weeks. Bitches have been known to be successfully mated on day 3.

Really well i never knew that i have done a lot of research about BTs more so before we bought our little boy but not a lot of books or web sites go into that much detail they tend to just tell the basics. We are planning on mating them but not for at least another year or so.At the moment she growls at him if he goes near her so i think its seperation time ASAP.tHANKS FOR THAT.

You may find you have to put one of them into kennels for a couple of weeks, because males often go absolutely bananas with an in-season bitch in the same house.....howling (all day and night), not eating etc etc. Be extremely careful not to let them into the same room as each other.

You'll be getting plenty of practice at keeping them apart because you won't want to be mating them till she's 2 years old!

Yes he stopped eating yesterday and as for howling that i can cope with or should i say do cope with i think these two want to be pop stars as soon as they hear my alarm at 6.00am they give us the dawn chorus and in tune too thanks for that i will heed your advice.

I can only say 'you ain't heard nothing yet'. You might be lucky and not have one that howls and barks. I had one non stop every day - trust me you can't cope with it.

I'm going through this at the moment. My male is howling like a banshee to get at my in season bitch. She is at her peak time and boy does he know it. With him the howling goes on for 7 days and 7 nights. Lots of people do cope with it BUT you have to have nerves of steel and I really do mean that for your stress levels will go through the roof :)

If I ever get to visit your home Jayne , PLEASE be sure to warn me if it is Jasmines *time of the month* first :D :D I do NOT have nerves of steel :D ;)

At the moment all is quiet on the western front, though im not for one minuete imagining this is how it will be all the time.Gypsy can't understand what's happening and Rags thinks he's upset her but does'nt know why, so last night they both ended up in bed with us they slept like babies but i was awake most the night making sure he did'nt get her, oh i cant remember how easy life was when there was just me and my partner. No regrets though. Thanks all for your advice i am thankfull.

This is the reason I only keep one sex, as it is hard enough to keep neighbours sweet at t6he best of times.

The pups now 5 1/2 weeks old were having a barking session in pairs. I had to sistract them as they were finding it great fun wither side of the tree trunk of the plum tree that is in the dog run.

They will all be gone by the end of the month, though two will be coming back for a quick visit while owners are away on breaks in the coming months.

I think i would have a house full if i got the chance, my neighbours are all at work all day so were not to bad.Our neighbours next door but two have 4 big dogs so their barks are heard more than my little uns.
