How young could a lab retriever go in kennels during owners 2 week hols. Would this be OK at 5 mths or not??

Many working Labradors are kenneled from birth with no ill affects just pick a good kennel that will guive him lots&lots of attention and make sure his vacinations including kennel cough nasal spray are up to date

Why not try him for a day first, then a weekend, and see how he manages? Good kennels are happy to do this. :)

I would say not. At 5 months he will still be very young will forget any training he has learned and you!! 5 months is 20 weeks ish - 2 weeks = 10% of his time on earth - if he were 10 years old that would be the equivalent of 1 full year. The first few months are the most formative of a dogs life. For me - I would be looking to spend this time with my puppy - not away from. Why not find somewhere you can take him - or postpone your holiday until next year when he should be fine in kennels as you can ease him into them

As suggested, try him for a day or 2 first.
Spend time finding the right kennels and make sure you are happy with them. Puppies do settle ok and find it easier than an adult dog who has never been in kennels before!
And don`t worry; your dog will not forget who you are.

The kennels that we take our two to are run by our obedience trainer. She thinks that it is a good idea to put a pup of that age in as they adapt well. My daughter used to work, part-time, at the kennels and said that puppies always get a lot of attention by the kennel staff. Our puppy went into the kennels at about the same age (admittedly with our older dog) and was absolutely fine, she hadn't forgotten any of her training when she came out (although it wasn't for a fortnight). It is also particularly useful if your pup is a little shy with people.
