What is the notible different when the temperature drops before whelping? I have been monitering my bitch all week she was always 99.5 in the morning and 100.5 in the evening, yesterday she was 98.9 and 100 in the evening. Does the temperature decrease slowly or just drop suddendly?

Hi, the drop in temp is gradual and goes down to around 98, over a day or two when they are very near. good luck with the whelping.

My bitches tempretures have all seemed to go down over night I did have one occasion with our labrador when in the morning her temp was 37.5 slightly lower than normal and by tea time she was panting and her temp[ was down to 37.1c she delivered her first puppy about six hours later
