Welcome to the forum. Run a search on mange using the search facility in the top right hand corner of the forum page. There are many past threads on both types of mange.

Is your pup any type of collie or collie-cross?
If so, please don't let the vet give any more Ivermectin - it can be lethal for this type of dog. Other breeds seem to be okay with it though.
For the mange, get an anti-parasitic shampoo from a pet-store (ideally your vet) and bath him once a week for a month
all over. There are herbal baths that can be given - other people on this site know more about those than I do.
Good luck. :)

i have serched for mange i called my vet to ask if they have that stronghold he said he has never heard of it i was wondering if it something i can get @ a pet store no my pup is a chihuahua mix but really un sure of that considering the size of him

Ask at your local pet store what anti-parasitic (flea, louse etc) shampoo they have, or can recommend, and bath him in that.
Whereabouts are you? Stronghold might be under another name in some countries.

Stronghold is sold under a different name in the states. It is also used for heartworm. Can anyone advise of the name, as I just can't bring it to mind Interceptor might be it, but not sure.
Edited on Sat 5th April for correct American brand name for Stronghold, which is Revolution!

The American name for the product is listed within the thread link I have posted above. The thread includes further product information :-)

My puppy suffered with a skin irritation at about 14 weeks old. My vet prescribed ALUDEX mange mite wash. I had to pour a diluted mixture over her and left it on and not rinse it off. I had to do this every day for a week, then twice a week, then just once and it cleared up. She has had no trouble since.

HI, if your puppy is not of a herding /shepherding breed then I would follow your vets advice. When we had an outbreak of mange - before Stronghold was invented - the dogs were injected fortnighly with Ivermectin with an Aludex wash on the "in between" week. It takes 2 or 3 injections to clear it up. dont worry about contracting mange yourself - they cannot survive on us for more than a day or two ( the UK variety) anyway. Ivermectin is strong stuff - but it needs to be as mange can be very hard to shift. Always stay in the vets car park for at least 40 mins ( preferably an hour) after the injcetion in case there is an allergic reaction. If the puppy has an allergic reaction, it can be very fast but it can be reversed very quickly with an injection - I think of prednisolone or something simaliar. One of mine had a reaction to it after the 3rd injection, she was fine after the first 2, and was going into anaphalactic shock. Luckily I had some pred tablets - gave her two immeditaely, crushed on the tongue and within a few minutes she was
allright. Scary though. Good luck. Once the mange is cured I would consider using the US equivalent of Stronghold on a regular basis, to keep the mange at bay. If you have any other dogs I would have them treated with the Stronghold equivalent now so they dont catch it too, it ius very catching. There are very occasionally side effects to Stronghold, but i have not experienced any, and have used it regularly for 2 years now on all my dogs including small puppies.

I dont think it could have been mange ,surely - if it was cured with cooking oil.
