Hi, any staffy experts out there. Ive got 3 staff pups and I am planning on keeping one, hopefully to have a go at showing one day. The problem is I don't know which one. One boy looks a bit chunkier than the rest with a thicker neck and bigger head so I am pulled towards that one, but is there more important things to be looking for eg feet, ears, etc. Or is it just a lucky guess that you'd pick the best one.
Thanks Mitch

Hello.

How old are they? I would wait until they are 5/6 weeks before deciding and then it would only be a guess all be it an educated one.

What breeding? ie who's the sire and dam.

I assume the stud dog is shown? ask the owner of the stud dog to have a look he/she should know their own lines.

If you want to chat more email me kazzstaff@btopenworld.com

Hi
I know there are some very experienced breeders on the site - but for my own curiosity just how do you tell at such a young age which is the best pup ?

Hi Lel
Good question, I always look at about 5 to 6 week too, after that they have little growth spurts which sends them off in all directions :D
You spend hours watching them play for attitude and character, watching them move with a toy in their mouth, look at them from head to tail and just keep looking for the right bits in the right places, usually there's a few that you can determine are pets only from the outset, but it's not an easy task at all and most breeders at some point have let the worng one go :)

Hi guest i would hold the puppys till they were 8 weeks before picking your puppy and weight is not important as puppys change,
A good top line dip or arched back stay away from,
correct jaw as the most common thing for staffs iis out of line jaws the bottom row of teeth should just sit behind the top row,
Short muzzel and a good stop the stop is were the muzzel stops at the eyes and shapes upwards towards the top of the head,
much feel free to email me if you wish and i can send you more info on the standard and what to look for but the rest is luck if it was that easy we would all have champion dogs.lol
