Hi Pam,
We saw a Pharaoh Hound at Discover Dogs on the Sunday. My daughter is studying Egypt this term and was really pleased she could see one up close. They are alot bigger than we thought they would be! Just out of curiosity, how many are there over here?

Must have been mine !
I had 2 bitches there: Zara & Yonnie
I'd estimate about 300 Pharaohs in the UK
Height : Dogs 22'' to 25'' & Bitches 21'' to 24''

Come to think of it there were two! I couldn't remember how many there were as we had looked at the Ibizan hound display too and I think they had 3 there. Was there an older man with them?

Sorry but I can't remember who had their Ibizan's there other than a
lady who also has Italian Segugio's / Alison Wilde

Pam,
I noticed the Cirneco dell'Etna in the latest DogWorld Annual :-) What do you think?
Leigh

I first met the lady who brought this enchanting dog to UK, when she attended Ringcraft with her Pharoah, which she later made up to a Champion. That was about 12 years ago. They have Maltese and Italian Greyhounds. I met the little bitch in the photo outside after Bath Ch show, about Whippet size, I can see the Appeal for someone who wants a smaller dog, as whippets are really the only sight hound we have of a small size, unless you include Basenjis as a sight hound?

It has very clean lines doesn't it Brainless. Are the ears that size in *real* life or is it the photo angle? That question wasn't meant to be derogatory, I would be interested to know as you have seen it :-)
Leigh

The thing I remeber most was how outgoing and friendly she was :D the ears are not as narrow as they appear in the photo, looked just like a Pharoahs to me! I thought it a super breed if she was typical in temeperament.

Re: Cirneco dell etna
I have met Maureen Foley's bitch/ Melina
also cover for Jan edition of Dogs Today magazine
& have seen a couple in Florida
They are square where a Pharaoh is slightly longer in body than height.
I like them - perhaps when I'm older I'll get one.
Pam
Melina won b.o.b. at show in Belgium recently.
I guess Brainless you live nearby (grin)
