Branched from here
There is a breeder on this site selling pups from a 12 month old bitch . Obviously other breeders are concerned at the young age of the bitch but the breeder has added on her site that the people criticising are only jealous and should mind their own business .
everyone has their own views as to whats right or wrong but it must be so confusing to the novice buyer who thinks they are on an ethical site

Hi Lel
This matter has apparently now been resolved.
The bitch in question had a medical problem and it was on the vets advice this bitch was bred from at this time. It was not the intention of the breeder to breed at this time, but they followed medical advice.
The two kennels in question have now sorted the matter out and their respective sites have been amended accordingly.
In all fairness the discussion should have been kept between them and the site not used as a battle ground by either party.

Well we all live and learn!
I've never heard of a Vet suggestion mating a young bitch to sort out a medical problem!! I wonder which RVC he trained at?

The bitch had suspected pyometria. It was treated and the recommendation following the treatment was to breed at next season.
I have posted an article regarding this method of treatment to the board before -seems a better treatment than a full blown hysterectomy (sp)
Actually I had a bitch that developed pyometria (open) when her pups were 3 weeks old. Our vet also used this treatment and we did breed next season. This was at the time only 1 litter in twelve months could be registared but because there was "good cause" the litter was obviously registared.
So this treatment and advice does seem to be a known practice with vets - infact the vet of the bitch did recently attended a seminar on the treatment and was very impressed.
It might be worth more champdoggers visiting the article I posted as we never know when one of our own good bitches could develop pyometria and if a good breeding bitch producing good stock and all our lines would we want to lose her for the sake of accepting modern treatments.
My bitch has been fine since this treatment and the pyo has NOT retuned - she had it in 2000- however we do follow the vets advice to give antibiotics at each season.

Hi Lel
The bitch has not had the litter yet. When the pups are born the bitch will be approx. 14 and a half months not 12 as the post looks as though she had the pups at 12 months, which would make it look as though she were mated at her first season. She was mated at her second and was over 12 months before mating. Still young I know but was just cause and thought all the facts should be correct. :-)

Hi Staffie
as you can see the post has been branched from another thread by admin .
I have not actually posted anything discussing this subject as the title suggests .
My reply which was to another mail was that for the novice buyer buying a pup from a site like this it must be extremely confusing as to what is ethical or not due to various comments made . That was what i wanted to get across
I know nothing about breeding and do not pretend to or advise anybody on this subject and so I was not taking sides ( so to speak) . The thread looks misleading

Can we close this matter now please. The debate about breeding straight after a pyometra is an interesting one and that is why the thread was branched :-)
