That's exactly what my reaction was !
Do you mean the different coat types/colours guest? Or the differences sometimes evident between English/ German bred dogs for instance?....there are no different types within the GSD - the Belgian Shepherd has 4 varieties - but not GSDs
If you could illucidate a little more I'm sure someone could help - there are loads of links to individual owner/breeders from this site.

Maybe they mean the difference between the German Shepherd Dog and the Alsation ? Isn't it something to do with the length of the tail and one has sticky up ears and the other doesn't ? :D Leigh

Leigh you are joking aren't you???
The German Shepherd and the Alsatian is the same breed, Alsatian is just a name given to the dogs in the UK during World War 2 because of the hostility to the Germans! The proper name is German Shepherd Dog and it doesnt matter if its Germanic or 'old fashioned english' type.
Leigh I am sure you are winding us up, as you have came across before as being very knowledgeable about GSD's.

Not fancy getting another one then? Since I discovered GSD's I must admit, I love them to death, couldn't like another breed more, they are great!!
Must admit, am fond of Alaskan Malalmutes and huskies too, so beautiful, but they come across as being very hard work, I love the intelligence, eagerness to please and beauty of the German Shepherd.

Totally agree Bear. I do miss not having a shepherd around the place and will have another sooner or later. The various pointers have taken over at the moment, but I still have a real soft spot for a good shepherd :-) Leigh

Thats my breed for you beauty, brains and willingness to please (themselves mostly, LOL):D Seriously though I have bred 4 pups that have done competitive Obedience at the lower levels, from exemption to Open Novice. The lass who has had two of them usually gets in the first 10 in Novice, but it is a challenge, not for the faint hearted, as their motivations are different to your classic obedience breeds. In America there is a very keen contingent of Working Elkhound owners in Agility and Obedience. There have been at least 3 Elkhound Obedience Trial Champions.
