Hi was looking on this board today and noticed that someones pup on here had there 2cnd jabs at 10weeks . I called the vet about Jabs , they told me the first had to be at 8weeks and the second at 12 weeks is this correct? Also when can you take pups out for walks is it after the first or second jab?
Last question is socialisation , as they cant walk and its a bit difficult for me to carry him as im pushing a pusdhchair is their any other way of transporting him outside safely so he can meet people , other dogs and get used to noises , horses , sheep etc

Vets differ in when they give the pups their jabs - mine will only do the first at 10 weeks and the second at 12 weeks, because if there are still maternal antibodies in the bloodstream the "proper" vaccination won't 'take' properly. Then the pup can go on the ground where other dogs have been 10 days to 2 weeks later.

Can you take him in the car to places where you can sit on a bench with him on your lap to watch the world go by? This would be better than him not going out at all, and pups can get very heavy by 12 weeks!!

Hi Serena, Sydney had his 1st jab at 8 weeks then 2nd at 10 weeks. Can go out @11 weeks. I know that there are differing views and some may fown on his early jabs. As he is a Dobermann I chose to do it at these ages to enable me to begin socialisation of Sydney as early as possible. I was advised that under no circumstances was Sydney to go out untill 11 weeks (ok to visit non doggy households so the unfortunately the in-laws were ok.sigh.. "just kidding")
Geeze Sydney is heavy now @ 10 weeks dont think Ill be able to lift him @ 12.. (thinking of buying a back brace for those times when heavy lifting required..te he he...)

I may be wrong but I think the Pups used by the Guide Dogs For the Blind are inoculated early to allow the to be socialised ASAP.

There are two different brands of vaccine out there - the newer one being able to be used at 8 and 10 weeks. Some vets still aren't sure about that one so stick to the original vaccine and the routine.
