My friends have two dogs. An 8 year old ex-racing greyhound and an 8 month old Munster bitch. The Munster is being trained to the gun, as well as being a potential show dog. They live in the country and have a wooded back garden. There is a woodpile which, naturally, has alot of little animals living in it! The problem is that the Munster goes into the woodpile and flushes the "game", usually rabbits. The greyhound then chases and is followed almost immediately by the Munster. Is there any way we can stop her, as she has already been out at the local shoots and we don't want her shot if she forgets and runs in?
Thanks. Lindylou
I take it the greyhound would not be going to the shoots:), just the munster? Im no expert on gundogs, having an afghan myself! :) , and i am sure you will soon get a reply from someonw who knows gundogs, but it seems that the munster is being led astray by the hound....munster flushes, hound chases . hound does it because of instinct and learned behaviour on the track. Munster does it as a chase response , copying the hound. Whoever is training the munster to the gun should be able to help, but it would probably be wise (but practically difficult) to try and inhibit the teamwork at home between hound and munster, before it becomes a hard and fast learned behaviour.
