Hi everyone.i'm new to this forum so i hope i post this in the right place! I have a 3 year old staffie bitch which i have had since she was a pup,i have recently bought a staffie boy, have had him for 6 weeks and he is now 14 weeks old. They get on fine and neither has shown any aggression they seem to follow each other everywhere. We have left them alone twice in the past couple of weeks(only for half hour-hour each time)and when we get home Angel(our eldest) is panting like shes been on a 10 mile hike and Tyson(the pup)is looking all guilty and the beds are on the opposite side of the room!We never had a problem leaving Angel on her own, will this be a problem when Tyson gets older or is it just because he's young and wants to play all the time? Also he has taken to eating his poo at night, will he get over this?Thank you.

Personnally i wouldn't leave them alone together - at this age it isn't an aggression thing but your bitch will need an opportunity to escape as pup will be most annoying! I introduced a male pup to a 3 1/2 year old female stafford last year and always kept them seperated when i went out. I put up partitions betweeen 2 rooms, at a height that The elder could jump to escape but the pup couldn't - i had one of these partitions up permanatley so she could escape!
As he gets older i would also seperate them when you are out, They may not be aggressive towards each other but play could get out of hand - either together or over a toy - and once staffords start fighting they will not stop, and imagine what could happen if there was no one there to split them up! Not saying this will definately happen - but do you really want to take the risk?

Thanx for the guidence,we luckily have a seperate living room and dining room(their beds are in the dining room)and had thought of separating them when we go out,but thought this may cause the pup a lot of upset and worry as he has not been apart from Angel since we bought him home-they have separate beds but he always sleeps in with her-should we try this the next time we leave them alone.
p.s. just took a peek at your photos-your staffie is gorgeous, very photogenic!

Just my opinion - but i would get them used to being apart, and give your girl a break at the same time! Does she ever leave him alone? Like go upstairs or want to be ina different room? Have you commanded that play stops, or just let it go on until the pup falls asleep?
I didn't leave my 2 togther at night until pup was about 4/5 months old as i felt that he was fully house trained and old enough to sleep through so that he wouldn't annoy cleo all night long!
How old was pup when you got him? And is your girl spayed?
PS, Thanks very much!

He's very much an instigator,he'll dig at her to play and she goes along with it,she does walk away from him sometimes but he'll always follow her, whether it be to annoy her or just to sit with her,he's very attatched to her.We do tell them to stop play after a minute or 2 as he bites on her lips and hangs on them(she has quite sensitive skin so we have to be careful-she's pure white with 1 black ear)
They are very good together at night, apart from the first couple of nights we have not heard a peep from them.We close them in the dining room(which connects to the kitchen where he does his business at night)at around 10pm and they lay quietly in there beds till morning.Angel only took about 3 weeks to toilet train, are boys worse or was Angel a fast learner?
Tyson was nearly 8 weeks when we got him and Angel is spayed,we also plan on getting Tyson done too!

Hi
My honest opnion would be to not leave them together unsupervised. I have a staffie, a bitch, aged about 4/5 (rescue) and a Great Dane puppy - 7months. Whilst she tolerates him, I would never leave them alone because if she does decide to go for him it will be carnage! So better safe than sorry. My staffie is very patient, but a new pup can be very tiring so she will need time out :)

They sound very similar to my 2, Solo is always making up games and diggin at cleo to play and she definately gets narked off with him - even now and he is nearly a year old! I would give your girl csome where to escape to, where he is not allowed just to give her some space and quiet time - so to speak - you may find that she does n't use it so you know its not necessary... But make sure she knows its there!
No, both Cleo and Solo were house trained very quickly - but i felt it was fairer on her to keep them apart as he woul dwake up at 6 and want to play, where as she really enjoyed her beauty sleep!
Where did you get them from? An dwhere abouts are you? Any piccies?

We got Angel 3 years ago from where we live in Peterborough and we got Tyson from Norwich,Angel is so quiet and placid and never barks,Tyson is a bit more vocal and a real character! I do have pics but have no idea how and where to post them.
I'm just replying regarding the poo eating, I wonder if there is a possibilty it is the bitch doing this to keep the area clean? Or alternatively, pups chastised in the house for mistakes will often learn to "hide" it by eating it because they associate the presence of the owner + poo with being told off and want to avoid this.

Just a suggestion I had a problem with my eating poo and I now feed carrot with every meal and the poo eating has stopped, worth a try

It's definately him eating the poo as i have seen him do it,and he is paper trained and is not told off for doing it,he was almost paper trained the day i got him so this has never really been a problem,i just wondered why he has only just started to do it and hasn't done before hand.
Will give the carrot a try,i occasionally feed carrot as a treat to chew on as they both seem to enjoy it and as my female has a beef allergy it's good for her.

The puppy should be crated at night and whenever you are not with them. Also crate the puppy for an hour, several times during the day to give your other dog a break. Puppy's can really try older dogs.
