Hello ,Im new to this forum, but maybe someone could help?
Last December we bought a pup from a breeder in Wales. We paid a lot of money for her and travelled quite away to pick her up.We are absolutley delighted with her, she,s sooooo lovely!!!!! Whats the problem then?We have never received the pedigree papers for her, when we picked her up the breeder told us he was waiting for them to come back.Ive emailed him several times and he,s told me that he is busy but will have the papers on their way to me!We have no plans to show or breed the dog as we only ever wanted a pet.But as we paid £650 and carried on the insurance which came with her, have we been had???Dont get me wrong,we wouldnt swap her for the world, but if she is not a reg pedigree, would the insurance be cheaper.
I know some of you will slate me for not checking everything BY THE BOOK before we bought her,but all im asking for is advice and not insults....Whatever the outcome I have a wonderful dog, companion and best friend to my children....
Any advice ?????????????

Hello

Write to your breeder (recorded delivery - make it look official) asking for the papers within 14 days. If they do not respond to you then I would suggest a follow up letter demanding a partial refund.

Was she advertised as Kc registered, if so i would do what Chole said as you would have a case against them if they do not send papers or a partial refund.

What does it say on your receipt? If it says KC Reg, then that is what you paid for and must get. If it says "registration papers to follow" then 4 weeks should be ample time.

As Chloe says, send a registered letter saying that you expect the registration document to arrive within 14 days or further action will be taken.

It gets me mad when people are messed around like this.

Since KC registerations moved from Clarges Street to Aylesbury they are processed very quickly. If an applied for name is not accepted and the breeder has to substitute another name then that takes a little longer but there has been plenty of time by now for it to be settled.

If you write to the breeder and say that you are going to contact trading standards, that usually works, a breeder has 12 months to register a litter. normally the registration docs are given at the time of sale, well I do that, but not all have everything ready for pups going to new homes. Do youknow that dogs are covered under the Sale of Goods Act. Trading Standards just might have heard of this breeder, you just never know.

I know someone who had a litter born in November and has only just recieved the KC paperwork, so it is possible hes having a problem with the kc. If you know the kc name of the dam then phone the kennel club and ask them what's going on, this person who's litter was born in Novemeber has had irrate people phoning her and writing letters thinking they were being ripped off. So told them to phone Kennel club and they assured these peoplethey were registered put having problems sorting paperwork out. Obviously if this is not the case then follow the other's advice

Dont know about any hold ups with the KC. My pup was born January & I got the paper when I picked him up in March, sent of the paperwork to get him registered in my name and recived it back within a fortnight.

Sounds a little fishy to me. Good luck with your paperwork.

Kennel Club were really quick with the paperwork for my pups - sent off paperwork when they were 3 wks old, had it all back when they were 4 wks old.

Hi, sorry to hear of your problems if the puppy was advertised as KC reg or you were told that the puppy was KC then the breeder must do just that. Write recorded delivery requesting KC papers, write or tel KC with details of dam and sire ask if litter registered. If nothing materializes then contact your local Trading Standards office as they can help, the breeder should not advertise KC reg if not in possesion of KC papers or should write in ad KC papers applied for if not availailable at the time of sale or if told verbally that pup is KC reg then you should have it in writing that KC applied for at the time you purchased your pup. Hope this makes sense, you do have redress DO NOt let the breeder get away from their responsibilities.

What breed is it and did you receive a written pedigree from the breeder giving details of parents, grandparents etc. I (and most breeders) give a written (or KC pedigree) to buyers of puppies as well as the KC registration document. If you paid £650.00 and received nothing it is very worrying.
