Am I right in thinking that a speyed or neutered dog cannot be shown? Is a vasectomy (sp?) possible in dogs and would this still allow the dog to be shown?

Thanks,
Jen

They can be shown but it should be stated on the entry and printed in the catalogue.

I am not an expert, but I believe that if you apply to the kennel club for permission a speyed or neutered dog can be shown.

You're quite right Fiona, the Kennel Club will give permission.

In reality I doubt if many spayed bitches are 'notified' (who can tell?) and castrated dogs are very unlikely to be placed, so they aren't shown much.

Edit: I suppose a vet would vasectomise a dog, and yes, it could be shown, because the breed standards only say that "male dogs should have two apparently normal testicles well descended into the scrotum" - nothing about whether they are fertile or not.

I know of a neutered dog who does very well at champ shows, even had a first at Crufts!!!
