Hi,
My little Daschund was born on Friday, March 28 and I'm nervous about when I bring him home (not for a couple of months). I want to start him off right with training, behaviors, etc. especially house training. He's a mini and is moving into a home of 7 cats and a silky terrier. The terrier, Henry, was the first dog I ever had and we had a heck of a time training him, especially house training and that makes my husband a little cautios about a new dog. Henry is now a grand little boy that I wouldn't live without. Our obedience trainer taught us to accept him for the hard-to-train breed he is and worked with us from there. I have always wanted a Daschund and they are extremely rare here. So any words of advice would be appreciated.

Hi Aniol,
They are certainly my cup of tea! :). We have had our miniature smooth hair for two months now, and toilet training is going really well. Ours is a female, and she already knows the word NO and sit, and follows us around the park off of the lead. She is doing really well and is a total pleasure. Where did you find your puppy?
With regard to the cats. We have three, and one of them is a very very large british blue. They actually play together every day, wrestling on the floor, and its hilarious to watch!. Just introduce them all slowly (on the first day you bring him home, try to keep all the animals away from him), as it will be scary enough just being around new sights and smells, and then gradually supervise him around your other pets and you should be fine. He will be so small when you get him home (mine was exactly eight weeks), that the cats find them quite insignificant! which is good!
We have an older dog too, (a CKCS) and I am sure that having the older dog has helped her settle in. After the first night, we put their baskets together in the kitchen, and they have slept together day and night since!
Any more questions, please feel free to email me. You are going to love him :D
