like the previous post, i am having a hard time choosing a puppy. I have never had one, and i am open to any recemendations ANYONE may have. I would like a femenine dog that i can come home too, very friendly... I would be ready to train and housebreak the dog, i am just in need of a little experience that anyone has had.
Thank you very much, susan

Hi Susan :)

I Think your best bet is to research many different breeds before you commit yourself. You need to be sure that the breed you pick is the right one for you. Spend time looking at all the different breed guides.
You can try the Guided Search pages on Champdogs.
Another fantastic place to research different breeds is the Discover Dogs section on the main Kennel Club site.
On both these sites there will be many different contacts for clubs/breeders etc.

Please also register with Champdogs. You can then reply on this thread and ask more questions. There are many owners and breeders who are members here with a huge variety on dogs. I am sure they can give you advice on certain breeds.
Good Luck with your search.

Ali :)

HI Susan
the search can be overwhelming cant it becasue theres so much choice .
Have a look at the sites listed and as mentioned if you decide on a particular breed you can then ask questions and advice about that breed . There are a whole host of factors to take into consideration though ;
size of dog , longhaired/shorthaired , how much grooming will it need , does it mmoult excessively , does it have high energy levels and therefore require lots of walks and excercise ( will it fit in with your lifestyle) , will it be east to train , does it have particular feeding needs , is it a breed that likes handling and fuss , does it get on well with children , does the breed have any known health problems etc etc
As you can see there are a million questions to ask and to find out .
Also make sure pup is from a good breeder ( visit several before you make your choice) and above all try to ensure it is KC registered .
Hope that gives you something to thing about anyway
Good luck :)

Hi I think lel and others have just about covered everthing but do be carefull about the type of breeder you choose ,I was contacted by someone the other day who was asking for advice on puppies and she had telephoned several advertisers in our local free ads papper (not to be reccomended) and had some most unusual and very worrying responses ie. people with un hip scored ,eyetested stock, mother son matings, and people who want to meet you in a layby or deliver you a pup, all of which are very ,very wrong a good breeder will want to meet you ,vet you and will welcome your visits, our prospective puppy owners visit the mum prior to whelping and then they visit the pups at least once before they are ready to leave in addition to that they are all given the third degree but by doing this we have made some good friends and so far we have never had a puppy returned to us but i guess we may be just lucky in that respect.
Good luck and visit lots of breeders and take there advice
