My year old weimy has a lump on his toe which the vet has diagnosed as a Histiocytoma, she has advised us to have it removed this obviously would need to be done under a full anaesthetic. Has anyone had any experience of this type of lump?

yes, i had a bitch a few years ago that had 3 seperate ones removed in her lifetime-and like yours all in akward places-but no problems with them at all, healed over quickly and left barely a scar,

Thank you Dizzy, my last Weimy died of cancer the first indication was a lump on his foot so you will understand my concern

sadly the bitch i had my lumps removed from was pts a day short of 4 with cancer---but it was a coincidence as non of the lumps removed where cancerous, --good luck, hopefully yours are ok/

I'm pretty sure we've got a thread on this somewhere. Histiocytomas very common in young dogs, and quite often resolve spontaneously; also quite often come back if removed surgically! Most often quite benign, tho' I expect there are a few exceptions.
If it's on the foot, itwill get licked a lot, I expect, which doesn't help, because it could get infected. I have removed them with Citricidal from Higher Nature, but always be guided by your vet.

Hi Jo
Your right there is a thread about this "skin tumour"
My dog Bob was diagnosed with this on Monday he's on steroids for ten days, and if the lump doesn't go away it will be removed. Unfortunately bob's lump is on a delicate part of his ear and if removal is necessary his ear may be slightly deformed.

Thanks Jo, I did a search as you suggested and found the information helpful. I am going to try and get some citricidal tomorrow as the vet can't operate until Monday 7th I will use it and hope that it works before then, how long did you use it for? and how often did you use it?

I put the Citricidal on as often as I remembered - it tends to get licked off in spite of being bitter. Be warned - the spot looks more angry for a spell, then seems to go.
However,as your boy's is on his foot, I really would be worried about infection if the spot becomes raw, so proceed with caution - may be better to wait for you vet in this instance. My dogs have had them on their hocks or shoulders, which are a little further from the ground!

Yes, had two of these and both were removed as they were fast growing and if not removed as quickly as possible once they started growing so quickly then there wouldn't have been enough skin left to repair it after the op.
Was very nervous, but Chelsea did GREAT. If it's on another part of the body (which she had as well) I'd wait it out and see if it goes away on its own, but on the toes I'd have it taken off.
