Hiya,
Im having a debate with my bf over our "next dog".
Im very much a GSD person myself, but my bf
insists the new dog has to be a bull terrier as he has always loved the breed.
I dont know all that much about the breed, although Im an experienced dog owner and I have been trying to
find websites that will give me some CHARACTER information.
I've found lots of breeder websites, but still havent found any significant information about the dogs character and natural behaviour.
Any suggestions would be welcome, ofcourse if anybody is willing to give me some first hand experience, that would be even better!!
Thanks in advance guys! :)

HIYA
AFTER READING WHAT YOU WROTE I HAD TO REPLY. I HAVE SADLY JUST LOST MY BEST FRIEND AN ENGLISH BULL TERRIER CALLED CLANCEY. WE GOT HER FROM THE BULL TERRIER RESCUE CENTER JUST OUTSIDE BASINGSTOKE. SHE WAS A LARGE PART OF OUR FAMILY FOR JUST OVER TEN YEARS, EVERYONE THAT CAME INTO CONTACT WITH HER LOVED HER, BULL TERRIERS HAVE A VERY GOOD NATURE.
THEY HAVE RECEIVED A LOT OF BAD PRESS BUT AS WITH ALL BREEDS YOU MUST BE INCHARGE! IF YOU LET THEM THEY WILL TAKE OVER AS YOU ARE AWARE THEY ARE A VERY POWERFULL DOG. BULL TERRIERS ARE AS THERE NAME, THEY TEND TO WALK THROUGH THINGS RATHER THAN AROUND "LIKE A BULL IN A CHINA SHOP".
THEY HAVE A VERY LOVING NATURE & ARE REAL CHARACTERS.
IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK YOU WILL FIND ALL OWNERS WILL PRAISE THE BREED.
I COULD TALK ALL NIGHT ABOUT THE STORYS OF CLANCEY, BUT AS AN EXAMPLE WHEN MY KIDS WERE YOUNG I CAN REMEMBER COMING HOME FROM WORK ONLY TO FIND THREE KIDS LYING ON THE FLOOR WATCHING TV WITH CLANCEY LYING BETWEEN THEM.
BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR SEARCH IM SURE YOU WILL MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION

Hi there I haven't been on the site for a while but I noticed your question.I have a 20 week old bully and she is wondreful.I have 2 children 9 and 12 and she loves um to bits. They are a bit arden at times but so loving and funny. If you take them to puppy class and get them used to other dogs they should be fine. They do get a lot of bad press but I wouldn't be with out mine. You will get the occasional person cross the other side of the road to avoid you but as my vet says they are the uneducated few. They are great fun but need a strong hand,so if you do get one be prepated.Best of luck.

Hi,
Hi to Kim as well (hows Maddie?) I've wanted a bull terrier pup for a over a year now, and finally got mine after pestering hubby! I have two children 8 and 11 years, a 13 years young x retriever (who is more playful, although she can have time out from pup when she wants) and a cat. my pup is 10 weeks old, i did a lot of research as well, find a good breeder, go to a few bull terrier shows speak to the breeders meet their dogs. I wouldn't be without ours either!! use a crate from day one, and firm, constient handling is a must!! Although he is only 10 weeks, he's been clean for 3 days now, knows what leave it means, off, and no. He loves praise and will come when called ( i chose my pup at five weeks old and named him so the breeder used his name before he came to us!!), He has mad minutes where he charges about, but most dogs do!! he is very loving will often seek out a lap to fall asleep on. One Bad thing he can clear a room with his gas in seconds!! although he clears the kids to bed in seconds so maybe not that bad!!!!!!!!!!! a good site for more info purly for this breed is Bull Terrier.co.uk join the forum!!!!!

Yes you are so right Mari - which means that when considering any breed of dog you HAVE to do your research and make sure it is the RIGHT one for you

Hello, I just had to reply to you as I have been through exactley the same problem with my boyfriend. For the past two years we have wanted a dog and I wanted a gsd as I grew up with them and just love the breed and he wanted a english bull terrier. Anyway over much debate we found a litter of ebt which had just been born and went to see them and ended up leaving a deposit one! Taz is now a year old and he is a lovely dog, though he has been a handful at times! I think they have a wonderful character and a very unique personality and I wouldn't change him for any other breed. I do love gsd but we had our gsd for a long time that I didn't really want to replace her with another so I am glad that we got something completly opposite. Make sure you read up lots on this breed as they are not for everyone and be sure you really want one because they are a handful when they are growing up, taz is only a year old now and has calmed down alot now but from 5 months old to about 9 months was the worse time for me with him as I just couldn't do a thing with him. I used to take him to a puppy class and he did really well till he got to 6 months and then I give up as he started being so naughty. My trainer said he brains went from his head to his balls and proberly be best to quit while I was ahead so I did. I only took him to socialise not for obedience as they wasn't breed to be obedient really but now he has grown up a bit he is really good. I can only speak from my experience from what taz has been like but I am sure other ebt owners might have different advice, I have only had him for a year and is still learning about the breed. If you want to know any more you are welcome to email me on cindym685@aol.com and ask anything you want to know about them.
