Hi,
I am picking up my long searched for puppy in just over 2 weeks and have been researching a few bits on early training etc, from friends family and the expansive internet, all very helpful......but varying and sometimes contradictive advise.
I wonder does anybody know of a good book, website etc with good sound training tips from houstraining to obedience training. I don't want to expose the little guy to too much too soon but need to ensure the training he does receive is based on proven results!
THanks

Hi Sooz :)
Welcome to Champdogs :) and congratulations on your new pup. If I can remember the name correctly, there is a book champdoggers refer to as a bible by Gwen Bailey i think called The perfect Puppy. (or something like that)
Someone will probably be along soon to confirm.
Good Luck with your pup. Now you are registered you can keep us all updated with your news :)

Yep it is called the Perfect puppy Gwen Bailey. Good book. I also bought the Dog Listener offered some intersting advice as well. Commonsense it also a major advantage. Good Luck. Ive just had my baby for 2 weeks and with the knowledge I have from the books and this forum his training is coming along beautifully. Cant wait for puppy classes to see if he remebers any of it when he has all those playmates around.
Good luck in your new life (belive me its a new life as everything changes once you have a pup around, see my other posts for examples of life with a doberman puppy)

Congratulations on your new puppy :-). I've had my cocker pup for about 9 months now and can definately confirm that it changes your life - in a good way of course :-). The Perfect Puppy is a good book - do you have and breed specific books? I've found Frank Kane's Pet owner's guide to the Cocker spaniel good for general advice. I don't have children but a lot of my friends watch me and tell me I use the same tactics when Morgan (pup) has a tantrum as they do when their toddlers have one :-) Most of it is common sense and a lot of repetition :-)
Have fun when the time comes.
Shirley
