Can anybody advise when is the best age for microchipping. The vet checked over Sydney a dobermann ( 8 weeks) and said that he should be ok to have the chip inserted at 10 weeks as he had no problems with the injection and he has lots of skin.

Had our pup done at twelve weeks with her second injections. Have had no problems. I'm sure that there will be lots of differing opinions tho' :)

We had rufus chipped whilst he was under GA whilst being neutered,
just thought it would be kinder whilst he was under so he wouldn't know about it.

THanks for all your advice. Im sure that the vet wouldnt do it if it was dangerous or will hurt him. Poor little beggar have visions of it slipping around under all his excess skin and ending up on his shoulderblade or somewhere else (not that it should happen but Ive heard horror stories about silcone breast moving around.)

HI
We asked about chipping when pup went for first jabs and we were told to wait a few weeks - he was finally chipped at 12 weeks and doesnt seem to be any problems so far ( touch wood) . He's 5 months old now :)

I am afraid it does sometimes happen, and it happened to a friends dobe bitch. It had travelled to her shoulder blade, and when playing it mudt have been hit and broke. This then caused an alergic reaction and an abscess, which needed draining, and a lot of scar tissue formed in ugly lumps. After a couple of months and some of it being removed by the bet her shoulder almost looks normal again.

I am not anti chipping, and have all four of mine chipped, but implanting any foreign body can cause a problem.
