Topic Dog Boards / Showing / The Peke may be stripped of his title (locked)
- By peanuts [gb] Date 24.03.03 17:56 UTC
Did anyone see the Des and Mel show today, it said that somebody has claimed that Danny the Peke had had a face lift.
The KC are now fully investigating the claim.
Danny did have a op on his throat for his breathing reasons but it is claimed that he had a touch up to his face aswell.

I think people are just trying to put the little chap down.
What do you think?

There is also 'speculation' that the Kerry Blue, RBIS bit the face of a well known judge at the after show party!
Bec
- By Lady Dazzle [gb] Date 24.03.03 18:46 UTC
It was slightly lower than his face!!!

Lets say his crown jewels were in danger!!!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.03.03 18:51 UTC
He did that on the winner's podium too, didn't he?!
- By Bear [gb] Date 24.03.03 19:58 UTC
jealousy, bitchiness, backstabbing, scandal - all essential ingredients to a Jilly Cooper novel - and dog shows!!
- By Sarah Date 24.03.03 20:10 UTC
Wasn't it the brother who snapped during the Judging at Crufts when he won BIS?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.03.03 20:32 UTC
Similar temperament runs in the family, then? :(
- By peanuts [gb] Date 24.03.03 21:21 UTC
Yes i think it was his brother that snapped at the judge.

Perhaps the judges will get it right next year......Field Spaniel best in show!
- By lel [gb] Date 24.03.03 21:48 UTC
Or Staffy best in show :D

No matter who wins , there will always be someone who will think of a reason that it is wrong :( :(

I agree
Every one loves their own breed the best and there is a certain amount of jealousy too
( But Staffys are the best lol) :D

I'll have to change my 'informant' then :D

I believe it was on TV today that it will be stripped ( or already is)

Hiya,
Ok, please no one think I am really stupid, but did he REALLY have a facelift?!
Waiting to be laughed at...........:-)
Also if the Kerry Blue snapped at the judge, cant he be disqualified or someting?!

I'm sure once the KC have done their investigations then we will know the reason why (well I can hope). However, if he is stripped of his title will it be passed to the RBIS or will they take the biting incident into account?
By the way Vikki it was a relative of this one's that snapped at the judge when it went BIS. This one bit a judge in the after show party and I believe the person required hospital treatment.

If the dog did not bite in the ring then the result should stand. After all that is where the judging is done. It may well show poor temperarment but the judging was over by that time. Cosmetic surgery is a different matter. That is covered in the rules.

- By gwen [gb] Date 26.03.03 23:18 UTC
I think the point about the bite is, although at the "party" it was still within the confines of the show.
Gwen
- By John [gb] Date 27.03.03 07:37 UTC
I would argue that point Gwen, Judging is done in the ring not at a party after the event. I must say though, If true and if I was thinking of using the dog, biting at anytime would make me think again!

But is there anywhere in the regulations that says that an incidence has to be confined to a show or even a KC registered event for the KC to take action. Surely as long as the dog is KC registered then the rules apply?
Bec

Doesn't a Show technically close half an hour after Judging has been completed?
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 27.03.03 09:40 UTC
Can't find any news stories referring to this - what a shame for the 'dog game' if it's true, Crufts is all the general public know and people will no doubt think that if one dog is surgically enhanced, then it's widespread.

Is there any news in Dog World this morning, for those of you subscribers who get their papers on Thursday?

There is a piece in Our Dogs. The owners say the dog had a thoat op to relieve problems following a thoat infection they did not report to the KC as it did not alter his looks. The KC are investigating.

I'm sure it's been blown out of all proportions.... I can't honestly believe that someone would put a dog through a facelift...:(

I doubt if we'll ever here the real story though....

It will be some jealous vindictive person trying to dig something up....must admitt the Peke didn't do it for me or the Kerry Blue....but Hey I wasn't judging....

Would like to see a Curly Coat next year...preferably mine...:) He He

mmmm, at least the breed you have was seen in the ring..... Mals and a few others never had a chance of getting into the main ring!!!

jay

(not bitter, but it was a shame for the Italian peeps who came all that way and never got into the main ring)
- By vicki hayes [gb] Date 27.03.03 11:45 UTC
I agree.... but just because they are in the ring....doesn't mean they get looked at so to speak....Curlies usually get overlooked as with Chesapeakes....probably as they are minority breeds....as judges don't know enough about them....

Although we do come through on occasions...so shouldn't really complain.

But I do feel feel for the Mal people...such a shame after such a long day aswell...no doubt waiting round for the most part of it....Hey and we Curly people know how that feels....Manchester springs to mind....nearly missed the Group myself.... 3pm finally got in the ring after arriving at 9am.....

Enought of me whinging back to doing some work...

When's the last time a Munster was shown in the gundog judging???????????
- By lube [gb] Date 27.03.03 12:35 UTC
I had a peke years ago who had a "facelift". What had happened was that the skin that is wrinkled over his nose was rubbing into his eyes and causing ulcers. The vet removed the excess skin to prevent further damage. We jokingly referred to it as his facelift! If this is what has happened in Danny's case then this should have been reported to the Kennel Club. But even more disturbing is if he did have to get an operation to help his breathing.... food for thought!

Hi,
Ok thanks everyone for clearing that up for me, although I am sure it has got blown up as these things tend to do,
But time will tell and we shall see wont we, but it would be a shame if he was stripped of his title bless him!

Wasn't the Poodle "Tommy Gun" stripped of his title because they found dye in his coat and subsequently lost his LKA win too? If the Peke looses his, depending on when the "op" took place, Danny may not even be a Champion any more !!
Dawn.
- By John [gb] Date 30.03.03 20:51 UTC
I seem to remember that the "Tommy Gun" affair was well after Crufts and not connected in any way with it. I'm sure it was found that the "Substance" had been put on the coat by "Person or Persons unknown" Either way, he is still listed in the catalogue as the BIS.

If this one is an op for a breathing problem then it is serious because of stud implications.

Regards, John
- By Sarah Date 31.03.03 09:04 UTC
Wasn't the Tommy Gun affair more to do with complete change of colour? Or was that another one?
- By fleetgold [gb] Date 31.03.03 02:54 UTC
The operation was last year so Danny was already a champion so wouldn't lose that. The owner's story is that the operation followed an illness, it was not to correct a congenital defect. If that is so then Danny should be ok.

- By Isabel Date 31.03.03 10:21 UTC
I think that depends though Joan, if it was the case that a normally constructed dog would not have needed the operation to cope with the throat infection then I think it is relevent and as John says has implications in any stud work but if the throat infection was so severe that any dog would have needed the op to survive then fair enough. I guess we will have to wait and see what the KC make of the vets report.

Well i'm not going to comment on the little pekes case, but i do know Airedale Terrier breeders who enhance there dogs tails to make them perfectly set by inserting a wire into the tail when they are about 5 months old.
What people will do to win is beyond belief in some cases.

The pek is now likely to be in the clear alegations of COSMETIC surgery being done on him last year it is belived to now have been proven FALSE!

Whatever next!? Will the Newf 'returned' from America because he wasn't 'good enough' be charged with taking anabolic steriods?! Well he does seem to have made a huge improvement in such a short space of time!!! But seriously folks is there money at stake here? coz "where there's brass, there's muck!" How much is a nose job these days anyway? Do we need random urine tests - and who wants to take them? Let dogs be dogs and less human interference.
