Please somebody help me!
I have a 6 month old Cocker Spaniel (gizmo) and he chews everything in sight. I know he is a pup and pups are renowned for chewing but i have never seen anything so bad. My socks, chairs, bed legs, WALLS! He is not a lonely dog and has a great temprement but he is costing me an absolute fortune.
(I was thinking about putting some of that "Stop biting your nails" solution on things) NOT REALLY.

Help please someone.

Carly

have you tried the bitter apple chew deterrant?
Does not stain, or damage things...just taste foul to a dog and us (i tasted some by accident -
don't ask!!)

By puppy is same age but no too much of chewer, they do grow out of it.

Good Luck,
Louise x

Hi Carly,
There are several products along those lines specially for this problem! One is called "Bitter-bite" and is supposed to be quite effective. Some people put chilli sauce onto things they don't want chewed... I'm sure if you do a "search" for 'chewing' you'll find loads of threads on this! :)

Hi Carly
I have westies, And my hope as a pup chewed everything, To stop this I smeared vicks vapour rub, On all corners of kitchen cupboards and all the othe things she took a fancy to, It worked, She could not stand the smell net alone the taste, Now I did check this with my vet first, He said it would be safe to use.

My dog has a tendancy to eat the post. I bought Mikki training discs and put them in the letter box. Apparently dogs don't like the reaction they have to the noise the discs make and this stops them from doing it. I don't even have to use the discs now as he automatically asumes that if he attacks the post, it will make a noise that he doesn't like. You could use these when you are at home as a deterent and then when the dog knows that a noise is made when it chews, this may stop the chewing. They are also good for when my dog thinks he can have access to my sofa. I just put them on the sofa and he only has to see them there and will not go near them. When you buy them, they come with a small booklet which explains how to use them. They are about £6, but well worth it.
