I am looking for a yorkie or minature poodle, my problem is - boy or girl? I have only had a boy dog in the past and was wondering with all your message board members help, can you give me your experiences of boy or girl dogs, the advantages or disadvantgages. behaviour wise and health wise, I dont intend to breed, just as a pet.

Well i have had mostly males in the past and Cru'Ella is my first bitch. After Ella i would definatly choose female next time. She is so much more of a companion and less her own dog than the boys. She is very loyal allready and protective.I really do feel a bond with her , and other owners of females have said the same thing.

We've always had bitches in the past, and now have two males as well....and they'll be the last males we have! We love them dearly, but they're so much more hard work than the girls. :)

Dog. Every time. You just have to *make* them love you :)
J/G - got to agree with you over male dallies though - females easier.

Hi i dont have any experiance at all with yorkies but i find a bitch and a Nuetered male are equally as loveable I would consontrate more on making sure the puppy is from a healthy line with all the appropiate BVA tests done and that the parents both have lovely temperaments
good luck

Hi,
I have owned 2 yorkshire terriers quiet a long time ago though (the age is in the name;) ) & i did find the dog much more easier to house train than the bitch & he was more independant could leave him alone for a few hours & he wouldn't sulk if you accidently trod on his toe he'd just come back wagging his tail. The bitch was more lapdoggy type & acted like a baby so depends what you want really a dog to be a dog or a bitch to be a very good 'pet me all day type'.
I loved them both dearly though & was sad when they died Barney at 11 & Cindy at 15.
Bye
Jenny.
