Are there any Champdoggers who regularly give donations to dog rescue or aid centres and if so which ones ? Or do you give your time ?
There are so many worthy causes but obviously we cant donate to them all .
Just wanted to know where my money/food donations would be put to the best use ?
From certain things i hear of the RSPCA I am reluctant to forward donations there .

Hi Lel
I give my money to PDSA, they survive on donations only.

I give a regular monthly donation to Labrador rescue north west. Rescue centres like this one could not survive without the help of the volunteers and peoples donations.

I also do the same as Cazmar and donate regularly to Lab rescue North West.

Hi,
I have a monthly direct debit going to Collie Rescue, as part of their scheme to foster the 'oldies'.
My local kennels/pet shop also has a 'bin' for the local dog rescue and whenever I go there I put something in - sometimes practical (usually some of the huge tins of Chappie!) and sometimes treats. Oh, and as I only feed my girls Nutro, any bags of sponsored food I win at shows either go in there if I'm going, or get taken to my local dog rescue.

I donate 5% of the sale price of each puppy to Rescue and the breed DNA fund. I also donate the Pet Plan breeder bonus earned from puppy Insurance.
Problem is that it is the breeders that cuase the rescue problem that never contribute to rescue, wheras those who take back their own stock are supporting the rescue of the dogs bred by the pocket the money and forget em brigade!

Hi there,
I used to donate monthly to a few of them by direct debit but stopped that after I learned that it uses a huge % of the money to run the place, admin, wages etc.
I now collect bits and pieces , blankets, generally a bag of food a month ,toys and take it straight to my local rescue. I recently gave them an old cage which they were more than grateful for.

I dontate to NCDL and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. I try to support my local rescues as much as possible but I'm not particularly impressed with the way many of them are run so it is usually in the form of food, blankets etc rather than money!

I used to donate food to rescue thinking it would go to the animals - seems I was wrong. I have been told that in some cases it is resold at a reduced price to the public and even one place that recieved a very substantial donation of food dumped it at the local tip! So I don't donate anything anymore, other than to my own breed rescue which I help out with as much as possible as well.

I think that most rescues would appreciate a cash donation rather than an assortment of food. Most rescues seem to buy their food at a reduce rate anyway and surplus tins don't pay the vet bills!
Many people seem to think that rescue animals should be greatful for anything that is put in their dish!
This of course just isn't true as digestive upset is almost sure to follow.
There are more ways to help than just financially, many rescues are desperate for people to walk and socialise dogs, this costs nothing but your time. Yes, we are all busy, but even one morning a month would be appreciated!
Why not ask if they need help funraising, organise an exemption show for them or a car boot sale.

The reason I gave food donations was because the lady who collected for them said food only, please don't give cash. She had been on the committee of serveral rescues and had seen how the funds were spent and was disgusted so will not collect money for any of them again.

Oh dear!
No wonder some dog rescues are so hard up with people like her around!
Perhaps before donating food, it would be a good idea to call the rescue and ask what kind of food would be of most use? Save wastage.

I donate to local centres an have also taken in blankets etc... we also have a bin outside tescos which I put stuff in.. also do that for the bin for people who are homeless aswell.

Yes , our Tesco has a bin for tinned and packeted cat and dog food , they ask that when you buy some for yourself , you just buy one extra tin and pop it in the container behind the checkout. It is then distributed to the local animal shelters.
At Christmas people were even buying an extra Doggy/Cat Stocking and putting them in there
