We have a 13 week Border Collie Puppy who gets car sick!.
She always drools alot and she is also sick.
We were thinking about giving her Sealegs but we are not sure how much

Do you make sure she doesnt have anything to eat immediately before the journey ?

We had a labrador puppy like this. We had to make sure she hadn't eaten/drunk for a couple of hours before a long journey.

To help her we started just sitting in the car, engine off, for a few minutes till she settled down. Then we'd sit in the car with her, but with the engine going, till she was happy with this. After a few days of this we'd actually move the car - about 5 yards - then back again. As long as she was happy with this we gradually lengthened the trips - ie to the end of the road and back. As the weeks went by we could go further and further - but she always had to travel on an empty stomach, to the end of her days.

This was before the days of crates - many people have found that their pup is much happier travelling in a covered crate in the car.

Hope this helps.

It's not a natural way for a dog to travel and needs training and experience just as anything else. Some take to it straight away but others need time and pasience. I start with just a trip around the block and gradually over the course of time extend it. Sometimes I make it a "reward type" trip with a nice (But short) free running walk at the end. But in order to not get trouble with over excitement, at other times there is nothing at the end except arriving back home.

Regards, John

I have used Cocculus, a homeopathic remedy, for puppies who were carsick, and found that it helped a lot. You can buy it in most chemists.

Try putting thick rubber matting under her. Some cars have bad static which can cause the sickness.

Worked for one of mine, then I changed the car

I still need to give one of mine 1 sealegs tablet if going any distance at all and she is now over 2years of age, ive tried everything from coccolus to ginger biscuits, short journeys in the car etc. etc, and nothing else worked, I like the sealegs as it does not make them drowsy. All the rest of my dogs are o.k. travelling and this is the first one in over 25 years of owning dogs that ive had that is car sick, still dont know the reason.

We have the same problem with our 18 week old. Have just started her on sea legs (half tab). Seems to help. we used it before with good results.
