Can i just ask if anyone here has completed the nebosh certifiacate and how did they find it . I have just started and would love any advice?
Lesley

I did it about three years ago. I thought it was okay but I wasn't brave enough to go to the Diploma! Maybe one day.... No advice to give other than to keep looking to the result of your hard work. What type of work do you do? Good Luck :) If you think I can help, let me know.

Bob
its a Health and Safety course resulting in a qualification ( very boring to those not interested in anything H&S related :)
Lel

Have you ever noticed that those people who aren't interested in H&S are the ones who scream loudest when an accident happens

Thanks
Just wondered what it was.
I'm surprised now that i have never heard of it, I work in a petrol station and have done various courses, so am surprised i've not heard of this one.
The courses i have done though have all been forecourt and flammable liquids orientated.
You wouldn't believe the amount of times i've had to tell someone to put their cig out, and stop talking on their mobile.

Alison
You ought to go for this! It's a really good recognised qualification.

Thanks Joan:)
The courses I have done so far have been arranged by work. Do I just get in touch with the college to inquire about this course? If this is a lenghty course it's also probably expenxsive so I don't think work would arrange this for me.

there are a number of ways to do this - either a crash 2 week course ( unless you really know your stuff i think that might be too heavy ) . I am doing the 15 week fast track but you can do a 30 week or so course at approx 3 hours a week .My college charges £650 and thats in the north west . The course covers everything from Law , Policys , Risk Assement , COSHH ,Accident Investigation , Construction etc etc . You can go on to take the Diploma afterwards which means you can take a H&S position .
All you need do is contact the college or better still put the idea into your bosses head that it will be really beneficial to him if you do this ??!!:)

i have done quite a few courses at work re ; Risk assessment etc . but how much do i need to learn about the court systems. I am just getting my head aroung civil and criminal law etc but for the exam how well do i need to know the different courts in place for each ? Will i be asked abut this ?

hi lel
I would say you need to have a basic understanding of how the court system works in english law, I am scottish by the way our system is better, lol.! It is a question that would be more directed to a part 1 dip course but may occasionly come up on certificate.A basic knowledge of where the courts sit in the great scheme of things should do. dont forget the house of lords
As you say getting an understanding of common/statute can be enough.
think of it as the english flag
common
civil criminal
statute
if you draw a circle around common and civil then one round criminal and statute but make sure the circles intersect it will show the relationship and that at times they do interject with each other
this can be seen in the health and safety at work act (HASAWA) the principles of the employer providing a safe place, safe equipment, safe access are common law duties but those duties cross over to the act
hope this helps
come back if you need further explanation
