Does anyone know how to teach a dog to sit and stay. I dont have any idea. My puppy does understand 'sit' and she does it sometimes but not always.

These are two things that we have taught our puppy to a tee in the last few months, however it is not something that is easy to share in a post.
I would recommend investing in some books, some good advise from people you know and I can guarantee some hi-tec person on here will provide a link (I am useless)

We use the sit command, before he goes out the back door, before we give him a treat and generally when it is appropriate. If he needs a nudge, simply pat his bottom.

For staying, we use this before his meals and with treats. We hold a treat, let him smell and then give the command i.e. "Rufus stay", then walk slowly backwards continuing a stern 'stay/wait", if he so much as edges forward you shout "NO", go back tell him to sit and start the process again.
This took a few days, but now weeks later he will sit all day whilst we walk away as he knows he is guaranteed a treat.

Remember to keep talking and keep eye contact throughout the exercise..and never give the treat unless he performs.

For the Sit, use a nice smelly titbit and put it near the pup's nose in a closed hand ;) Gradually move the titbit back (over the dog's spine) and he/she will "follow" it with their nose and have to put their bum on the floor before they can have the titbit. If the pup jumps up, you have the titbit too high.

Repeat lots and then when he seems to grasp the idea, start to add the word Sit.

For the Stay, you could start on lead, ask for a Sit, then move away just one small pace, then move back and treat. Use a release word such as "OK" when the pup is allowed to move.

Be consistent. Try not to use a release word sometimes and not others or it will be confusing.
