Hi guys , know it has been discussed but thought I would ask again what is your opinions on scanning? Should it be done? left alone altogether?

If any of you think best to scan what is the best time to scan? Is there a risk?

Thanks a head for any replies.

If you run a search on this Pam you will find many past threads on this subject, including some very recently :-)

Scanning is presumed safe - BUT there is no proof that it is. Any drug used in pregnancy goes through rigorous testing and trials but scans have never been subject to this. Current recommendations suggest that scans should be limited and for uncomplicated human pregnancies two scans only are recommended. Of course for complications it may be necessary for serial or regular scans.
I believe any scanning should be treated with exteme caution.

Thanks Lorna,

I think we are not going to bother although my vet has a prtable one and would come to the house I just don;t want to test fate in anyway but thought I would satisfy myself that there are not really any reasons that I should unless I notice something that seems odd..

Time will tell

Thanks

Pam

The only time that I scan now, is if the bitch does not appear pregnant after 42 days, and I think she is pregnant. I want to know if we are only expecting one or two, as its slightly more possible to have whelping probs with a few big puppies. At this stage in pregnancy, though puppies can still be missed on the screen, its much more likley that they will be seen than at 28 days.
