Hi, I have an 8Yr Old Min Schnauzer and i am getting a Min Schnauzer Pup soon. I have already decided that i am going to toilet train the pup using the hands on every hour method to try and prevent any accidents. I am wondering if people with experience of trained dogs and pups could answer the following question;

My 8Yr old is fantastic, he sits by the back door when he wants to go out and i would like the pup to do the same, what is the best way of encouraging this so the Pup realises thats what he is supposed to do when he needs to pee?

The fact that your older dog is already doing it, there's a good chance the pup will mimic his behaviour.
Just enforce it with the normal housetraining and the pup will soon get the message Im sure!

It shouldnt be too difficult. When your pup is a little more able to hang on longer for a pee, make sure he sits by the door before you open it, every time.
It shouldnt take too long for him to click that sitting by the door makes you open it!
When he starts offering that behaviour, open the door for him, even if you think he doesnt need to pee/poo. If he goes out and doesnt pee/poo then take him in again. and finally, dont encourage him to play about outside until after he has done his toilet!
I for one am not a fan of standing around in the freezing cold whilst puppy decides he wants to play for an hour!

Thanks for the advice, So i can expect the puppy to learn from my dog & a little help from me. I was not sure if i would have to do all of the training, i was hoping that my obedient dog would help me to keep the puppy in order.
