my lab bitch was mated 15 days ago. today she has started to leave a clear jelly with dark brown in the middle of it when she goes for a pee is this a sign that she is losing them.

Hi
could be but more likely a little infection, I would take her to the vets asap and let him decide on best cause of action.

the vet has just left she thinks she could be losing the pups or perhaps cystitis the vet has given her a jab of antibiotics
and told me to keep her quite and check her pee every time she goes and to take her back on monday if their is no change. i just hope she is not losing them.

Hi
keep everything crossed and hope its a touch of cystisis, same symptoms, discharge with little blood, it's difficult to tell. But at least she s had the jabs and antibiotics now so you've done the best for her whatever happens.

Hi
my Labrador bitch had a similar discharge ( but not the lumpy bit ) and she went on to produce five healthy puppies so fingers crossed ,we did treat her with a seven day course of Synulox (antibiotics) that the vet perscribed though
good luck and hope you have some healthy ,chunky bundles of joy at the end of all this worry!

Hi,
I've been looking through all my textbooks, and it says that abortion can occur from foetal overcrowding, hormonal failure or an infection which may either be localised to the uterus or generalised. It also says that abortion is uncommon, but once it has started there is little that can be done to halt it :(, though occasionally a progesterone injection (the hormone responsible for maintaining pregnancy) will enable the bitch to hold on the the puppies. If the abortion continues, veterinary supervision is essential to ensure all is well.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. well ive been back to the vets (monday) with a sample only to confirm thier was blood in it and yet another jab of antibiotics. been to the vets again today(tuesday) they have scaned her to see if they could find anything wrong but no joy so she is on antibiotics for another 10 days. then in two weeks back for another scan to see if thier is any sign of pups. somehow i don't think so i think they where hopeing to find out today but it is still to early but she did not charge me for the scan .

not due to go back to the vets untill 25th march for the second scan. the discharge has slowed down and she has only been eating small amounts of food since Thursday and is by my side all the time this must be a good sign.

Hi,
around 3wks into my girls pregnancy she started with a brown/red discharge, this turned to lots of dark red gungy stuff which the vet thought she had lost her pups, 2 scans showed nothing, then a week or so later the vet did the old way palpate(i think) and thought she could feel something. she told me not to get my hopes up.
9 weeks to the day (almost the hour) she delivered 11 beutiful pups 5 girls and 6 boys all vet checked and perfik! the vet was astounded as to where she was keeping them for a total weight of ...8lb 3oz!! thats pups not water or after birth. she thinks the didcharge must have been her way of reducing the numbers ie she had conceivet too many. Anyway dont be too down you never know!!

Thats just what Indi did, Try mixing her usual food with cooked chicken, I was buying those cooked ones form asda they are only a couple of pound each and boy does she like them. Im sure this litter will cluck instead of barking, but hey they`ll be worth a fortune if they do!!.
All my lot are doing fine, I was joking with the vet about missing them on the scan. ok if there were only 2 or 3 but 11 and to miss all of them . They just laughed and kept my money, Not funny really.

a little and often, she is possibly feeling stuffed anyway with those growing pups taking up all her tummy room, If you make her meals more interesting/ tastey then she`ll be ok. good luck!

Hi,
At fifteen days, those "pups" aren't even attached to the uterine wall yet. I feel that a mucus discharge is a GOOD sign of pregnancy and if the color was just a bit, it is probably just "leftover" from the season.
At 25 days, I wouldn't be suprised that she loses appetite for a little while- this is traditionally the time of "morning sickness" for dogs.
Not being there to actually see, I would guess that all is well. Did she have a fever at all in this time?
Thoughts, TiaLee

I have just read about a pregnant bitch not eating just as I was going to ask about my own bitch. She is a Papillon and due to whelp in 5 days but she will not eat for the last 24 hours (she is finicky any way)All day yesterday she would only eat dry foo (Bakers) I have not tried her with this today because surely dried food is not good at this stage. Sombody give advice.

Why isn't the dry food good at this stage? I gave mine her usual dry dog food and she nibbled at it (I free feed), then the day before she was to whelp she went off her food and wouldn't eat. When she had pups I did add water to her food for the first week and she still nibbled the hard through out the day. Her and pups were all fine.
ttfn :)

Congrats& free scan, wow ur lucky :)

Thanks for your email. She is eating a little today.I guess I am panicking a bit as this is my first papillon and I am used to Cavaliers who eat - anything anytime!

Hi,
Dried food is fine as long as she has free access to water at all times. :)
