Is it possible for a dog to win 46cc's? It seems an awful lot for one dog, but I don't know much about showing so thought I would ask.
Alison

Oh yes, more than possible. The dalmatian breed record holder has 43 CCs, and there are dogs in other breeds that beat her hands down!

I think I'm right in saying that the record is 97 CCs won by a single dog. Won by SH CH Homesteads Tiffany with Boduf, American Cocker Spaniel. I'm willing to stand corrected if anyone knows better.

As I have no idea about showing this is probably a silly question but here goes. If a dog wins so many cc's does this not annoy other showers who could probably win one if it wasn't for this particular dog winning them all.

Now there's a debating point!!!!!
In recent years a dog won Best in Show at Crufts. His owner continued to show him, everywhere, and he won 80 odd CCs in all. My own personal feeling was at the time, that if he'd been mine, ( Some hope ) then I'd have retired him. After all he couldn't win anything better could he? This dog holds the breed record for number of CCs won, and his father held the title before him with 40 tickets. The dog was used extensively at stud, so much so that there has been, in my opinion, an impact on the gene pool, even in a numerically strong breed.
What are peoples feelings on the subject of breed records?

I know nothing about showing really, but I agrre with you about that dog if he had have been mine he would have retired. In the uk what's better than BIS at crufts

It's only fair really to stand aside and let other's have a chance.
The dog In question is a gsd, so I just thought with this breed being quite popular and so many dogs in the ring this figure was unlikely, obviously I a wrong.

Would that be Ch Royvons Red Rum you're referring to then, as he won 46 CC's?
Ch Amulree's Heiko was shown at the same time as him and won 47 CC's which was the breed record in GSDs for quite a few years until Ch Gayvilles Nilo recently took over with (I think) 52 CCs (though may have been more as I lost count after 50!!)

It certainly is!:D How did you know that? Or is he the only one to win 46?
Is there any photo's anywhere on the net of him? Or any of his progeny? Or any info at all, i've done searches but can't seem to find anything
Thanks in advance
Alison:)

As far as I know, he's the only one to win that amount.
If you're wanting photos and information, the best resources are the old GSD handbooks and the Malcolm Willis book (unfortunately it doesn't contain Rummy's pic but does have some info on him) as I don't think much of the older stock are on the net.
Which of his progeny are you interested in?

Thanks for replying Nicky
Ch Reneric Scarlet Ribbons or any of the dogs on this pedigree.
What it is my friend owns a gsd and just asked what i could find out about her pedigree, at the mo she has no access to net.
The reason i posted is it says on the pedigree he's won 46, and thought it a rather high number. I don't seem to be able to find any info on any of the dog's. I was justing trying to gain an idea of what type they are. (come from)
Excuse me if i sound vague but gsd are not my breed.

Hi Alison,
if you want to send me the pedigree (highlight any dogs you're particularly interested in) and I'll see what I can dig out for you.
I know I have photos of both Scarlet Ribbons and her Ch litter brother in old handbooks, plus a photo of Rummy in some of my books, so when I get a minute I'll scan them and whatever info I can find and email it to you if that's ok?
I've got a bitch due to whelp any time now and some web site work to do, so that takes priority at the moment, but should be able to fit it all in around that.

HI to all for a start, this is my first ever post.
I just got a male of this man who claimed that he was moving house and could not have a dog in the new place (rented). The dog (Jason) is under wieght and in need of a lot of TLC, but.. he is massive. Why tell you this in reply to your post?
He has Amulree Heiko as his gggg grand father, Amulree Hassan as GGG grandfather. His top line, well GGGG on his top line is twice seiger winner Uran Vom Wilkdsteiger Land. Third name down is Lasso di Val Sole. Uran and Lasso are listed in the top 100 studs of all time according to one web site. I got this dog for £150, pity the owners had no idea of what they were taking on, he is drop dead gorgeous.
Best to all and I hope that I can join in many other posts
Yours

Hi Cris and welcome, at a loss to know what your post has to do with CC's but this is an old thread and I may have forgotten what has been said.
Glad you are please with your dog, take it he is a GSD, how old is he and as you posted here I take it you are going to show him. Not sure admin will allow you to include your domain in your sign off, so best not to do so, you can put it in your profile.

Hi
Have deleted my url.. sorry about that.. different forums, different rules.... politics, never was much good at it.
Erm nothing at all really, but I have not seen Heiko's name in too many places, so I thought I say hello.
If we can get him eating properly, and find out what we have to do to start getting into all this then we will. I do now think that I may have stumbled in here and misunderstood who is allowed to post here? Is this only for people who show their dogs? If it is I guess I will have to leave for now.
All the best any way
Chris

No, Chris, the forum is for anyone who likes dogs - pedigree, crossbreed or mongrel, it doesn't matter! It's just that your post was under the "Challenge Certificate" heading, which was a little confusing - no matter!
Welcome, anyway!

Sorry Chris, did not mean to suggest that this is only for show people, would guess we are in the minority, as JG said I assumed because of where you first posted but I understand why now.
To be honist I am not sure about the domain being used but as no one else does I guess it is not allowed on this particular forum. Admin are very strict about people trying to advertise through the back door, so I guess that is why. I did not want your post removed befor you had even got started.

As you know Jackie (you have been a member of the Forum for ages) ..no post would be removed because of that ..the url would have been snipped and a note to that effect added to the bottom :)
Welcome to the Forum Chris , I am sure you will be right at home. If in any doubt as to the Forum rules , check out the

Hi Chris
been a while since I owned a GSD but if memory serves me correctly Uran and his 1/2 brother (whos name escapes me ,MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP??) both became very influencial sires making their dam ,Palme von wildersteigerland one of the most influencial bitches in the history of the breed. It is quite unusual to find a Germanic GSD without one of these 2 brothers in their ancestory somewhere.

Hi Chris..congrats on the new dog.
Who are his sire and dam?
Take care

Dear Lisa
That's a good question, unfortunatly I think the answer will show that my young man is not quite up to scratch, only because I can find no record of either dog anywhere on the internet.
His sire is Dunmonaidh Vibrant. Does anyone have details about Dunmonaidh, apart from a dog called Junker? Details of this breeder seem almost impossible to get hold of, and yet he has this name in both mother and father's lines.
Dam is Marbercorft Andriana.
I don't think he is going to be up to scratch for showing or breeding from and neither sire or dam have hip scores on the pedigree chart, something I am not happy about given the stock that he comes from.
Thanks for the reply Lisa.

if a dog/bitch starts picking up cc's it seems to infuriate others :D . apart from those that can appreciate a good dog, even when not owned by themselves

certainly brings out the worst in many, !

The record in my breed is similar, and is unlikely to be beaten. We only have 18 sets of CCs per year, so an exhibit would have to go and win at every CC show for 2 1/2 years to beat her.
In our breed where Champions continue to be shown, as we are a numerically small breed, most people would retire a Champion once it has around 10 CCs, assuming they had a younger dog to show.
By Schip

Our breed record holder was still taking CC's in her teens I think she had 39 when she died not long after her last CC awarded. We are a minority breed and even at Crufts we only had 1 puppy in the class, though I have to say it does get very frustrating when you enter the open classes and are one of possibly only 2 animals that aren't champions in a class of 8 or more.
As I am disabled and have a very limited budget I'm afraid once any of my dogs were champions they'd be retired so I could take my other dogs out, mind I also keep tails in a docked breed so it might be a while till I have to face that one lol.

I made up a Champion at only her first full year of showing, while her Mum is still in the ring. It will be at least 18 months before I have another to show, by which time I will have 3 Veterans, and the Champion will only be at her prime at 5 years old!
So chances are I will take her out of the ring once her daughter is in the adult classes, and then show her in Veteran.

Does having a tail in a docked breed really give such a disadvantage? I thought that judges looked at the breed standard and as long as it carried it tail correctly it would not matter, or am I being naive? When I lost my Dobe last year I was going to get another one but wanted one with a tail (just as beautifull with as without) and although I knew it might be hard to find a breeder who kept tails it turned out to be impossible. I asked a Dobe breeder and exhibitor at Crufts and she said that she only knew of one breeder that kept tails but said that probably if I paid a deposit a breeder but keep a tail on a puppy for me. This seemed an impossible situation because how could I have picked a puppy at that age and I also would prefer the breeder to not dock any puppies tails (just my opinion). So I have chosen another breed but to be honest it is too soon to have another Dobe but one day I will have another.
Nikki

Hi Nikki, sadly it depends on the judge. There were dogs at Crufts from traditionally docked breeds with full tails - I saw several Viszlas, and of course the winner of the Terrier Group had a full tail. However, some judges have admitted they won't give an award to any undocked "docked" dog, even if it's the only one in the class. :(
Nikki - (if you are still here) I wonder who it was that the exhibitor knew who leaves tails on - me by any chance? :)
I missed this thread the first time around but to get back to showing champions. It is my opinion, purely from research on the internet, that the champions in this country have to be the best to become a champion and if they are not the best then they don't quite make it - especially in the more numerous breeds.
This is one of the few countries where everyone competes against the champions for that elusive CC - in other countries as soon as a dog is made up it goes into a separate class and does not compete against all the others, so that new champions are always being produced even though they may not be the best at the show by a long way.
It may seem selfish to keep campaigning a champion but at least we know, to a large extent (depending upon the honesty of the judges of course) that the best dog does win.
