Hi I bred shihtzu and i think that it is disgusting that sme one has sold you a 6 week old puppy, a puppy of thius age is by no means ready to leave its mum yet and as for toilet training it is far to young. I know it is not your fault but please puppies, especially shihtzu which are slower than some breeds to mature should not leave the home until at least 8 weeks of age i keep mine until they are 10 weeks.

Your pup should have been at least 8 weeks before it was taken from its mum and litter mates, however this is not your fault, and you must now try and house train him. You will have to watch him all the time, and take him outside regularly, hourly if possible. Watch for the signs, like sniffing round the floor, but be quick. Give him a fuss, or maybe a reward when he has performed outside, and in time he will work it out for himself, some take a little longer than others. If you are going to be with your pup every day, it will be easier, but be prepared not to get much done in the house, as they take up nearly all your time in the early months. I've just got a 9 week old dobe, and within 5 days she was telling me she needed to go outside for a wee, by standing at the door, but I still have to be quick to open the door. Good luck.

I have two shih-tzus and I think like any other dog, if you take your pup outside after each meal and just keep watching him. You will soon know when he needs the loo. One of mine does not like going out in the garden if it is raining so I still get the odd accident at night. I usually put paper in the kitchen on these occasions. Just be patient as it takes time. I hope you enjoy your shih-tzu as much as we do.
