Thanks Alan for all your help, I have just ordered one from Roger and it should arrive tomorrow.
Hopefully this is the start of a more sociable springer.I will keep you posted on our progress.

Hi Sandie,
All the best and please keep me posted as I also write about current Problems for people in Spain and the agony aunt page is like this site you may find the poblem suited to you. Mind you there is one thing wrong with Springer spanials nothing slows them down. I thought of lead boots for ours but they are the fastest sniffing dogs going. Great gun and drug dogs and will keep you fit.

Thats very true of springers Alan, we have 5 in our house, 2 bitches (spayed) 20months one of which the collar is for, 2 dogs 11months one with very limited sight and the other hyperactive and one baby 5 months who is to intelligent for his own good, so we have cetainly had our share of problems to sort out.
Maybe you can advise me on another problem with the 11 month boys, they tend to bark alot when we meet other dogs, its not an aggressive bark but still very annoying and I need to stop them, I was thinking of the Abiostop as I have heard good reports on it, the only thing is would it be ok with the one who has limited sight, I know he barks because he is unsure of what is ahead and is probably frightend so I was unsure whether it would be ok for him I dont want to frighten him even more. Also would the masterplus collar work in the same way as the abiostop, if so I wouldnt need to pay out anymore and could use the one collar for all the problems.

Hi,
I haven't had much experience with these collars, but I've heard that occasionally the barking of another dog can set them off, so that a dog can get 'punished' for something he hasn't done :(. I would also be loath to use this on the poor-sighted dog - if he's nervous anyway I think this could well make him lose even more confidence.

Hope you manage to sort it out, though. :)

Hi Sandie,

You have your handsfull but enjoy. I do prefer to use the remote for barking if you do not teach them speak on command so they understand what "shut up" or "cease" means. Your dog my think you are simply barking too. The Aboistop is where you go out leaving your dog and want to stop your dog barking altogether so the bark generates the gas but so does another dog barking and your mobile phone. It also does that to your romote as well if it is too close.
I have a vet in Spain who has a Husky that barks at other dogs that it passes by from in the back of the car so using a fob whilst driving is not a good idea. It does shut them up though if used with a reinforcement command. As soon as she sees a dog now she just says finish in Spanish and no problemo to date.

It is not recommended for apprehensive dogs as it can create another problem but I would prefer you to try teaching at least this dog to speak/cease on command as this is more fun, it works but takes a little longer to train which is about 20 minuets.

You will be like the working trials people now always to own a Master Plus for those odd little problems that could arrise. They are good but do try any alternatives first.
