CAN NE1 HELP? I HAVE A YEAR OLD RESCUE BEARDED COLLIE CROSS WHO'S GORGEOUS NAMED "LITTLE BEAR" BUT SHE HAS THIS PROBLEM - SHE WON'T STOP EATING OTHER DOGS POOH! MY TWO HAVE A DESIGNATED AREA TO GO TO THE LOO WHICH IS CLEANED AND WASHED DOWN DAILY BUT WHEN THEY'VE BEEN TO DO THEIR BUSINESS BEFORE BED ITS TOO LATE TO BE FAFFING AROUND IN THE DARK TRYING TO FIND IT TO PICK UP AND IS CLEANED THE NEXT MORNING BUT "LITTLE BEAR" ALWAYS MANAGES TO FIND THE OTHER DOGS POOH AND STARTS EATING IT! OF COURSE IF I SEE HER I SHOUT "NO" STRAIGHT AWAY AND SHE STOPS BUT I WONDERED IF ANYONE KNOWS WHY SHE DOES THIS? IS SHE LACKING SOMETHING IN HER DIET OR IS SHE BARKING MAD? THE VET JUST LAUGHS AND SAYS SHE'LL GROW OUT OF IT. NE IDEAS?

WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE

THNX

Do a search for poo eating, or faeces eating and you should find a lot of info.

Hi,
I have Beardies and my youngest dog did this with my bitch's poo, I tried all the usual things pineapple courgette in he food tablet from vet's. It didn't work so I had to make sure I lifted everything and over time he stopped he's 2 nearly and hasn't done it for months so hang in there and get picking.

Your vet just laughed mine muttered about tests and kidney/liver probs but I must admit I didn't rush into them as he was fine otherwise.

I don't know if it was just a stage or a habit but it stopped anyway, hopefully yours will too :-D

Thanks Anne

I'll try to keep getting it before she eats it. She dosent eat her own so something about this pack thing and trying to smell like the other dog could be right. I'd much prefer her not to have (Bogbreath)!

THnx

There's a few reasons why this could be picked up by your vet as being medical, like a lack of nutrients in the diet maybe even caused by a worm infestation, underfeeding or some disease which causes an increase in appetite. As your vet has had a look and doesn't see any reason to be concerned he obviously doesn't think any of these come into it.
It is such a common problem and dogs find it perfectly normal behaviour. It's just a hot snack and they wonder why we make such a fuss about it!
Prevention is really your only option. Pick it up before she can get it and distract her with a treat or a toy if you see her showing an interest.
Maybe you could stick up an outside light so you could see what she's up to when she's out at night. If she responds to a verbal interruption you might not have to go out and faff around - just stick your head out the window and yell :)

Hiya my 10mth pointer sometimes does it too!!
Apparently according to my vet it is because most of the best quality dry foods (ie Eukanuba, hills science and iams etc) once passed through, smell to your dogs just like food so although the dog eating it has taken the nutrients and fill etc and as these foods are not full of water and processed crap like some of the cheap ranges of tinned/other foods the dog coming across the faeces just thinks there is some dog food in front of him/her.
