Our 8 month old Cavalier King Charles puppy sleeps in her kennel indoors. she wakes up at about 5 am every morning and scratches at the kennel door and yelps. What should we do to et her to sleep in a bit longer?

Hi Guest,
could anything in your home be waking her?
We have always gone down to ours at 6am as my other half is up for work anyway, and this continued through the weekend out of habit. But then he suddenly starting waking up at exactly 5.30am every morning! - we realised it was since the central heating timer had been brought forward to...you guessed it 5.30!!!!
Our boiler wakes a clicking noise to start up and this was waking hm up...no surprise we put it back and mark has to get up to a chilly house! ha ha :-)
Just a thought....Louise x

Chuck an old curtain over the cage. It could be the light waking her up. Failing that, get up, put her out for a wee and then put her back to bed and get another couple of hours kip. Dont feed her or make a fuss of her except for if she does her business outside and then shut your ears as you go back to bed. With age her bladder control will improve and she will gradually get the idea that apart from an empty bladder, theres nothing thrilling to be gained from hollering in the early hours.
Good Luck.

When our dog used to wake up early, I never went in to see her. I just called out to her to be quiet. It didn't always work but sometimes I think just the sound of your voice reasures them that you are there.
