Hello everyone, I just got a new Boerboel and I have a few questions.
What is a good hip rating, and what should I know about the breed?
Thanks
Brian

Brian,

If you go to www.pedigreedogs.co.uk and click on breeds they are listed under South African Boerboel and there is quite a large piece includng breed standard and further links.
Did you not research the breed before you got one? Sorry but don't know hip scores but maybe you will find out via the links as abouve.

Hello and thank you for your reply,

I did a lot of research about boerboels prior to getting my pup.
I was curious about there habbits and what to be aware of, in regards to thier hips.
All the info I read and all the info I recieved verbally was very confusing. Usually when people have to physically write their replies these replies become very short and understandable. The breeder I got my pup from is a lovely lady, but I do not understand a word she says. It seems that there is a 1000 acronyms per sentence.
Anyway, thank you for the links. I really appreciate that.
Brian

Hi Brian, which registry is your pup registered with? We prefer SABT for our puppies. Was it a purebred puppy?

Regards
Anne and Shaun

Hi Anasha,
I believe that the pup is registered with the USBA. My paperwork states this.
He is indeed a purebreed.
Should I register with SABT?
Im still curious about hip scores.
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks for your reply

Hi Brian, if the pup is registered with the USBA, I assume that you have bought it in USA and that if you have it at home now it is about 11 months old. I do not know who you bought it from and that is very important. Why? A very few breeders test for HD in their breeding stock, but there are a few that do. Several members of the USBA use the PennHIP system and that seems to be a very good thing for the offspring of the breeding stock, ie it is reported that only about 5% of the offspring of PennHIP tested breeding stock (Boerboels) suffer from any form of HD. This is about 50% from stock that is not tested with the PennHIP method. We know who is and who is not PennHIP testing.

Under all circumstances we recommend hip testing of your dog when it has reached the age of 18 months so that you can make allowances for him if there is a problem.
