My yorkie is 7wks pregnant. At day 47. She has been acting a little uncomfortable today, more than has been. And can't seem to make up her mind where or how she wants to lay down. She's not panting or really acting like she's in labor otherwise, but I took her temp just to be safe and it's 99.1 F. It's a little past 11:00 pm now. I just took her temp a few minutes ago. Any opinions or help or anything would be appriciated. Is this to early? Should I worry or get ready to have pups soon? I have welp kit together, just thought I had another week at least. :) Thanks Missy

Hi, how is she this morning? If you are still worried I would give the vet a ring, but if he wants to see her I would get a home visit rather than take her out in the car. She might just be getting big and uncomfortable but the low temp must be a worry. Do you know what her temp is normally? My own "normal temp" is 97 which is below most people's normal temp of 98.4, but I dont know if a dog's normal temp can vary like that. Best of luck.

It's only been about an hour since I took her temp. I'm in US, time difference:) I'm going to watch her through the night and check her temp again in the morning. If it's still low I'll call the vet. If he wants to see her I'll probably have to take her in.The only vets around here who make house calls are ones who see large animals. I really wasn't happy when I found out also that for an emergancy after hours, I have to call Boise which is 35 miles away. What the heck do I have a vet here for is what I'm thinking now. I guess at least if I need someone during the day I have someone close and I can at least get info over the phone at night if I have an emergancy, And if I have to I'll just hightail it over the hill. Hope I don't have to go there though:) :) Thanks for answering so quickly, the drop in temp is a little scary this soon. I had her to the vets about 2wks ago for the flu, and her temp was 100.2 normal. So, we'll just have to wait and see for now and hpoe for the best. Thanks again

I know with mine when I was doing temp taking I took it at the same times everyday about 4 times a day. A hit or miss will mess up the reading. I took mine at 6am, 12pm, 4pm and 9pm. If they have been sleeping, eating, playing ect it can change. I made that mistake and took it an hour earlier and well it was dropped, then took it at proper time and her temp was normal. So I never did that again.
Good luck and do hope everything is fine :)

Hi, 100.2 is in the normal range but it is on the low side, as technically normal is 101.5. So hopefully the 99 degree temp you got yesterday is not that much lower then her normal 2 weeks ago. Unless she is obviously starting labour or appears unwell rather than just a little uncomfortable, I would keep her safe at home personally unless she is megga confident at the vets and a very happy traveller, but keep in touch with them. If she is eating ok and is basically happy and waggy, I wouldn't be worrying. If you hadn't taken her temp at all, would you still be concerned that there is something wrong? If she is going to lose/have them early I dont think there is much that can be done anyway to prevent it, (though as always I am happy to be corrected). As always, good luck. Please keep us posted.
