We would dearly love another Golder Retriever. The only thing that stops us is we've got a Golden at the moment whom we dearly love. He's 12years old. Is he too old to introduce a puppy into our home?

Concider this: Do the older wolves leave the pack if a new litter of whelps is born?

I think it depends on the personality of your dog and the breed that you'll have coming in. I got another dog and initially they got on fine but as the older one got more weak she was moved to the bottom of the pecking order and both she and I found that quite difficult. Having said that if you already had 2 dogs that could happen anyway. It's just hard when they get old and can't ascert themselves anymore :(

Why a puppy? Why not an older dog/bitch who needs a home? Just a suggestion

If your dog is a healthy 12 year old there should not be too much of a problem with a puppy, no more so than with a mature dog of any age. You just need to be prepared to exercise the puppy well and minimize the amount of pestering your older dog has to tolerate.

If your old dog is not in good health, has arthritis or other complaints, then I personally think it would be unfair to introduce a puppy. A younger dog would be fine, but not a boisterous and demanding puppy.
